Filter for Liquid culture jar

Yo, I got 3 cc's left of a spore syringe that I want to use in liquid culture. I'm super poor right now, and don't have all the equipment i need. While rummaging through my shit show of supplies, I managed to find a lid with a silicone injection port in the center, but there are two large open holes on each side. I have nothing to seal said holes, but I DO have ass loads of tyvek. Could I make a tyvek filter like I do for grains for an LC jar lid? thanks!

No. Use a few drops of that syringe on a grain jar and G2G from there.

Well, you could get some polyester felt from walmart for $1 and cut quarter (25 cents) sized holes out and use that as a filter, inoculating through the silicone injection port. Pretty hard to fail that way if you really want to make a liquid culture

I think LCs are quite a good thing. I use high glasses like this here lor LC:

You could also use a small bottle with a metal lid.
I cut a hole into the lid and use silicone from the cheapest silicone from the hardware store (1,75 €) to glue a piece of tyvec on the top. i use a nail to make holes for 2 injection ports into the lid and seal them with a piece of tyvek. the second injection port is for an air filter maid out of a syringe filled with moist cotton. That whole thing is autoclavable and and works as long it is filled less than half of its volume, because the filter shouldn´t get wet. You can´t shake it when the mycelium grows, but you can swivel it (not sure about the vocabulary, english is not my first language; i mean that kind of rotating movement, hope you get what i mean) with some pieces of broken glass at the bottom.

Well as I said mate I can only afford to use materials I have on hand (do have some silicone but it's a large tube and don't have the gun for it). Thanks for the input anyhow. cheers!

you can use a bolt tosqueeze the silicone out. You only need a very small amount.

My poor ass wasted a whole syringe making LC's Newbie mistakes but I'm determined to master LC now I'm using baby food jars to knock up some grain and shoving a 16 gauge needle though it to get a sample to make LC.

a bolt, a nail, a fucking pencil...Duh. You would think a guy who's into this hobby would be a bit more resourceful, but here I am. maybe I'm lazy? fuck. Enigma, good luck with yer LC, it seems the drawback is that one cannot tell if LC is contamn'd until it is actually used to inoculate. I can tell ya from experience that I've had 5-10 jars of healthy, white clouds in the h2o, and then knockd up dozens upon dozens of grain jars, PF cakes, yada yada, and had nothin but shitty bad luck! Fuckin way she goes boys, fuckin way she goes!

I believe FrankHorrigan reluctantly recommends 1g malt extract for 500ml water.
