YAY!  We are going crazy with king & piop production too; just put in 75 KO blocks.  What temps do you consider the upper limit for viable growing with these species?

Thank you so much for the strain BTW, its been rockin compared to my old strain. How long do you normally incubate kings and piop? Here are some recent pics:

Funny, i am eating some wild poplars right now (fried rice)  since we case them both i like to let them consolidate just a week or two after full colonization, then crack them.  I feel like we get more even pinset that way, but what ever your doing, keep it up. those look awesome!!  We had about 50 bags of kings that sat in the spawn room all summer, Dated 4-12.  They just sat there and just as the temps dropped below 70 in there at night they started fuzzing up and they pinned like mad.  so i think 60's is the top end for these realistically.  they will both fruit down into the low 50s for sure. poplar, even lower.  This also Says alot for quality of the unicorn T filter bags too.  six month surrounded by mold spores and no contams., ALthough i guess i should also give some credit to my cheap ass chinese impulse sealer

these look awesome.  what type of mushroom is that on the right?  What substrate mix did you use.  I'm also looking for a cheap chinese impulse sealer xD.

I Just got my first king stropharia LC syringe but just found out it won't grow well indoors (and i might be in the wrong season completely) so I'm looking at another species to play with for now too .

Do you have any oyster strains that you fruit right along with those?  I have temps in the mid 60's but am preparing just like you and testing various other oyster strains to fruit right along with them.

these blues and maybe pearls should fruit at least in the 60s, maybe lower.  They'll pin the fridge, so... I also got CW shiitake strain in case the S75 doesn't jive with winter.

Which begs the question: how low do y'all incubate?  I'm looking at insulating a storage area, either fiberglass or straw bales, for keeping an incubation chamber at 70.  It might get crowded though!

edit: and how important is insulating a grow room that's getting a lot of cold air blown into it?  versus heating.  i'm hoping to avoid electric heat and use a jean pain mound with radiators and heat exchangers.  still kind of on the fence, as I can't find anything similar.

Damn thats a long time to wait for Kings, but well worth it im sure! Yeah, with most King strains its really hard to get a pinset at 70+ F. Low 60's F will produce good results; 50's F gives amazing results.  Just pulled 1.25lb of a king block a minute ago; a 1lb cluster of 5 mushrooms and a single mushrooms that was .25lb.  I have actually been able to yield more with kings than regular oysters; but they are slower growing and right now consistency isnt as good as regular oysters.  I got some experiments going to change that. I finally found a strain (went through 5 already) that will pin out of X's cut in the bags like oyster/LM.  I think this is going to give me the results im looking for, but they just started pinning so ill know in a week or so.  IME 50's F seems to produce the best results with oyster (all types except pink&yellow), KO, Aa, Shiitake, Enoki, Nameko, Beech, and possibly more.  I love growing in cold temps :crazy2:

I fruited a half pound king somehwere in hte range of 60-70 this summer.  My s-75 are also growing excellent in hte same range right now.  I will be interested to see how it changes as temps drop.  Might have to set up another grow area soon.

Pretty much any non tropical oyster will grow side by side.

Minimal heat is necessary for us. We use one delongi oil heater to keep us above 40 degrees. Since ya gotta suck in air ya gotta have some heat. A bigger problem is the dry winter air. Hard to keep humid in our area in winter. We have tried pond foggers which are unreliable. And fine mist sprayers. No cheap or easy answers.

yeah i'm running 10 and 12 head foggers in each room and they won't really keep up in less than 60% RH.  I've got about a month i figure before it gets down in the 40s, but they're calling for a 'real winter' this year!

I'm using pond foggers myself at the moment.  I've purchased the black plastic ones as well as the metal ones with the rectangluar sensor that sticks above the fogger and found the plastic ones produce way more fog!  I'm gonna try to hook all my individual foggers up to one plug though as I seen in someones thread before.  May have been amanitas but not positive.

If the fogger take a low voltage power supply,  make sure to use one that can handle the amperage of several sharing one power supply.  Like if they draw 500 mah at 6v, and you have say 5 of them,  you'd want at least a 3 amp 6v power supply.
