What's the best liquor?

Hey all. I just recently got my first full-time job and I finally get paid tomorrow along with 2 days off to enjoy my money!
So Im gonna drink with my homie I dont get to kick it with anymore, and I want to know what you guys think the best liquor is?
As a minor (18) I've usually only had the cheapest of the cheap. Now I really don't care, I just want an Enjoyable drink.
I usually have ~4 shots of whiskey in a cup of ice, so it should be a very doable taste without mixing.
Thanks guys

I'm taking all replies into consideration.
I don't have much experience aside from learning my limits, but do you think I'm better off finishing 2 cups over about an hour, ordering pizza, then drink til I'm out? Or eating first, then drink til im passed out? I just hate hangovers

eat first, then drink, then eat again, then drink again, smoke weed, ...?, pass out.
just try to drink slowly and watch your limit as you go. if start feeling too fucked up call it a night. try to drink water aswell during your drinks. it helps alot.

That, my friend, is the key to drinking and having little to no hangovers at all.
Not necessarily with the stuff that is mentioned in the article, but you'll get the point
For mixed drinks, I'd go for vodka&sprite, vodka&OJ or shit like that. Easy to drink.

I'm gonna vote for Makers Mark (or another decent Bourbon) as well. Awesome over ice with just a splash of water or soda water.
I find a lot of "good" single malt Scotch tastes like TCP/antiseptic, and I have tried a lot over the last 20 years.
Decent tequila actually tastes really good to my palate as well.. I never go in for the lemon and salt shit, a good drink should taste good, you don't need to disguise the flavour.
I enjoy most alcohol of a good quality though.. A good English ale beats everything on the right day, but a Campari and orange juice has it's place. Or Prosecco, a decent bottle of red, a nice Australian or New Zealand sauvignon blanc, Mai Tais, Long Island Ice Tea, gin and tonic, gin and juice, high balls with any common liquor. I could go on... I'm drinking vodka, pressed apple juice and water tonight.
Top tip: ginger ale is the most versatile mixer on the planet. Nothing else goes with gin, vodka, rum, and whiskey.
You have a whole new world to discover and subsequently regret, my man.

Try a single malt scotch.
If you hate hang overs, then chug a bunch of water right before you go to bed.. I don't mean just 1-2 gulps, more like 1-2 bottles worth.

IME you have to pee throughout the night from the alcohol anyways.
I've never thrown up from chugging the water but my stomach is usually pretty empty by that point anyways. If you ate something a couple hours prior I could see it filling you up too much and causing discomfort that leads to nausea/puke.
Only time I ever got hangovers was when I forgot to drink water before bed, and I was a pretty heavy drinker.
This thread makes me miss alcohol but it's bad for me.. I started out a goofy drunk but now I'm just an angry bitter one that ends up doing stupid shit.

Rye, Bourbon, or Scotch IMO Rittenhouse Rye or Rye Wild Turkey (green bottle) are great go-to's. Of course there are nicer one's for more moneys.
Wild Turkey 101 is a great starter bourbon. Russell's Private Reserve Wild Turkey, Buffalo Trace, and Knob Creek are better and more expensive.
Laphroaig 10 and Glenfiddich 12 are great intro's to (single-malt) scotches.
Try adding near the amount of club soda as there is whiskey (so 5 parts whiskey, 4 or 3 parts club soda) for a refreshing drink! As well as more hydrating. Very nice IMO when having more than one glass
Make a thread in the Beer forum if you're looking to expand your horizons in that area Blondes, Amber/Reds/Browns, Pale Ales, IPAs, Porters, Stouts, Wheat beers, Belgian goldens, English Bitters, Scotch Ales. Barrel-Aged everything and Imperial everything

I hear there are some nastier tasting beers called lagers and pilsners, too
OP
@mush4brains
Newcastle isn't a bad brown ale, and ~20 years ago was one of the first widely available imports and craft beers in America. The new red ale isn't bad either. One of the first classics. Sierra Nevada, Newcastle, Guinness & Murphy's, and Sam Adam's are all great beers

I agree with pcp I don't like it either its too bitter but id take Newcastle over Budweiser any day. It really depends on what you like, i like Porters, Brown Ales and Lagers mostly and I don't like IPAs. So it depends who you talk to.

Newcastle TOO BITTER..!? Bitterness comes from hops, and Newcastle has never tasted bitter at all to me. However my first beer was a Sierra Nevada, which is hoppier (more bitter), so I'm sure that's why. Your tongue gets accustomed to craft (high quality) beers which will all be at least as bitter as Newcastle. But you'll have to tough-out a few before you enjoy them, probably, based on the fact you didn't enjoy newcastle (a very mild beer). And if you don't, that's fine. More for me!
@legend
Try Bell's "best brown ale" if you can find it, or even "Moose Drool" by Big Sky brewing which I'm sure you can find. They might be a bit more bitter than you're used to, but making your first "sip" a big swig/slug/drink instead always seems to fix that That's what I have my friends do when they bum a beer off me and don't normally drink good brews. Anything will taste less bitter out of a glass, too. The narrow bottle-neck concentrates smell/taste and bitterness being the most dominant flavor, seems even more dominant.

I never thought spending money on good liqour was a good investment. I never got drunk to enjoy the taste of liquor and even good liquor tastes like shit. I would suggest getting a shit ton of decent liquor with mixers and just having a 2 day/night shit show. That is getting your money's worth and most drunks agree that decent liquor over the weekend is better than really good liquor for a night.

I love gentlemans jack! I sprung for Jack single barrel before which is about $20 more than gentlemans, but it wasnt any smoother so eff that stuff.
But I prefer makers mark overall but if I want a good scotch I glenlivet 15 or 18

Some people love the taste of nice liquors And those that do scoff of the idea of mixers, lest it's a finely made cocktail. I like old-fashioneds, ocassionally a manhatten, but aside from that I'll take my rye/bourbon/scotch neat, or with ice and club soda (called a whiskey/scotch and water) depending on what time it is and what mood I'm in. Liquor can has some great flavors once your tongue/palate is accustomed. Whiskeys by far my favorite type, but I enjoy the earthy flavors of nice tequilla, the sweet mollasses of good rum, and the spicy herbal flavors of gin.
I'll drink water over shitty brands of liquor

I'll drop $10+ on a 22oz bottle of beer when one I love, or a great one I've wanted to try comes around. I've been drinking Red's Rye PA (rye IPA, one of my favorites) lately which is $10/4-pack. Since wet-hop/hop-harvest beers are right around the corner , I'm about to spend $10-$20 on a few different 22ozs (bombers), 4 or 6 packs. But since I can't afford that much consistently, I stock my fridge with Sierra Nevada's Torpedo IPA at $13/12-pack, and several other IPAs that are ~$6-8/6-pack as my every-day beers. I have a couple Dragon's Milk (bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout) in the fridge, and that was $18/4-pack.
So again, for me I just have to budget so that I CAN get a really nice beer whenever it's available.
And in terms of liquor, I somewhat agree. My daily go-to's are rye Wild Turkey and Rittenhouse rye, both at $20/750mL (fifth). I also have a bottle of Buffalo Trace Bourbon, and Glenfiddich 12 scotch that I don't touch nearly as much. If I COULD afford to drink the better stuff all the time, I would, but I'm fine with the (still good) cheaper options for the day-to-day.

Bombay+Campari+Amaretto/Grand Mariner
You want some good tasting liquor? Whiskey: Bulliet Gin: Bombay Sapphire Vodka: Vodka and taste? HA.... Get something russian, they would know. Tequila: Fuck if I know, I forget everything including what it tastes like after I drink it. Make Baja Fogs. Rum: Sailor Jerry's

Torpedos are way more expensive than that around here, they are like 10 bucks a 6 pack. I don't like Stouts or any aged beer really, and most of the hoppy ales around me are at most like 7-8 bucks for a 22 oz. My local liqour store has the biggest selection of beer on the East Coast with over 2,000 different beers so I have a very large selection of good beer that isn't too expensive. I can try a different beer each day for the rest of my life if I wanted to without drinking the same beer twice. http://www.buyritewines.com/flash/buyrite360.html

@fapjack Yea I'm not one for east-coast british-style IPAs really.. I mean they're good but I love the fruitier West-Coast ones. However, you're close to Vermont and I would be living exclusively off of Heady Topper Sierra Nevada should get a lot cheaper for you soon, they're starting a new brewery in NC really soon. But man do I feel lucky now! Those are ridiculous prices.
@lynch
The new fall IPA "Flipside" is great too. Tastes like an amber with a blend of hops that tastes close to Lagunitas IPA Damn good. Just picked some more up today, even
I LOL'd at that vodka comment Stolichnaya(sp??) I.e. Stoli is a decent russian one, I guess, but I don't really drink it.
I really like Tanqueray as a cheaper go-to gin, too. Can't beat Beefeater though IMO, but Bombays great
Sailor Jerry's is a good spiced rum, but I REALLY like "Appleton's" rum Damn-near drinking mollasses and brown sugar.
Bulleits a great whiskey too I forget about it for some reason. One of my favorite go-to's (I.e. cheap) is "old grand-dad" in the bright orange bottle. Wish I could find it easier Its awesome IMO in that its leaning closer to a rye than a bourbon, but still definitely somewhere in-between.

Taste is subjective, however there are some tastes that are very popular.

You almost cant go wrong with Bacardi Superior. Its readily available and tastes good to most people either neat (80 proof) or mixed with just about anything. Its well distilled, not harsh.

Personally I hate Bacardi superior Not that it's too bad, but far from flavorful IMO
Blind I just cracked a "Flipside" red IPA (Sierra Nevada) myself. I don't mind Jack, but 10/10 times I'll grab the regular Wild Turkey 101 over it. I'm not much for Tennessee/sour-mashes, but I LOVE my ryes which are much more sour than regular bourbons or Jack/Tennessee-whiskeys I used to love it, though; it was one of the first whiskeys I ever had.

I just always try to be encouraging to try new things, personally. Hence why I recommend some other (better) brown ales

Op unless you are going to hide out in the woods or whatever. vodka/gin n tonics with a splash of lime or lemon = no hang over. Woods drinks = at least a pint of anything goes and a 12 pack to chase it with. Just don't fall down the hillside while shitfaced.

Yup there's a great market for beer-trading. Not necessarily here on the Shroomery (but I can think of a couple members here that do)
However, it's definitely not cheap. Between the $20 postage and many desired beers being already expensive, it adds up.

That's just a weak stomach. If you were allergic to alcohol, you'd be allergic to it regardless of temperature.
Cold masks nearly all the flavors , that's why many prefer good whiskey/liquor "neat" at room temperature with no ice.
Ice makes it more refreshing.

I know. I used gatorade to mask my cheapo mccormick, tvarskeys, and the countless cheap whiskey brands I've had.
I dont plan on masking or mixing anything tomorrow night. I just wanted to know of spirits that can be enjoyed for more than their alcohol content. I'll definitely be getting a top shelf spirit to be enjoyed in its straight-out-of-the-bottle formQuote:

Equal parts:

Way too sickly sweet for me.
Too sweet for me as well. One of the only exceptions that I make is kahlua mixed with vodka.

That was my college experience, tastes like Christmas morning before it lays you flat on your ass. Oh, and don't knock using Boons Farm as a mixer with rum/vodka-- that shit is delicious. Who needs juice when you can have fizzy alcoholic juice?
Holy shit balls man I have to try that. That sounds like 2 drinks of that stuff and the room is spinning!

= add cocaine to water.. Very soluble in cold water, that's how you inject it, no heat needed, in fact heat is a big no-no.
Add said water to whatever you are drinking. Though you are better snorting it, or better yet injecting. (though that is a silly thing to start doing, it does give the best hit...).
Not recommending people start injecting ANYTHING before people start giving me shit.
Back on topic, I like Ricard/Pernod and water (pastis) too, you have to like aniseed, but it is strong and gives an almost hallucinogenic drunk. Similar to Absinthe in high quantities IME.
Surprised no one has mentioned the green fairy.. Is real Absinthe legal in the US?? I can't recall, been a few years since I drank out there...
My favourite beer is:
Not sure how much is exported, but anything from that brewery kicks ass, what an English ale should taste like, the organic is ultra refreshing and so well balanced it makes me sad to drink any other beer really..

Cocaine doesn't have good oral bioavailability, and cocaethylene (coke+alcohol) is only slightly better.
I've never tried ricard/pernod, but I like anise okay. The absinthe I've had was very heavy on the anise.
It's legal in the US up to a certain percentage of Thujone.
Also, you didn't say what your favorite beer was As for "what an english ale should taste like", What KIND of English ale?
I'm a bigger fan of our American way of dry-hopping, and use of more flavorful hops, high in both alpha and beta acids, while the hops most English brewers use contain mostly alpha (bittering) acids.

The beer in the picture immediately after the statement...? Seemed fairly obvious when I posted it and still does looking at it again.
It is what any English ale should taste like, it is what all beer should taste like IMO, it is just fantastic.
For the record, if for some reason pictures are confusing, it is called St. Peter's Organic and made by the St Peter's Brewery in the county of Suffolk. Most of their stuff is amazing and well worth trying, you can always spot it from the unique bottle shape.
An ale is an ale. A bitter is a bitter. A stout is a stout. I am not sure where the confusion lies...

Again... I fail to see where the confusion stems from.. I never stated that drinking cocaine was a good idea at all.

Picture doesn't show up You must have used an invalid link. Easiest way is to upload the pic on imgur or on the shroomery. A bitter is an ale, as is a porter and is a stout. I'm assuming you mean a pale ale, but red ales and brown ales are also common. Just looked it up and it's an English pale ale. Sounds like it's pretty hoppy from the reviews, I bet I'd enjoy it

Hmmmm.. I did upload the image to the site and it shows up fine from my end.. You using a phone or other non-computer based way to look at the thread (tablet etc)?

In England an ale is basically just referred to as a "real ale" as opposed to lager, pilsner etc. I think there may be some cultural differences regarding classification. Ale is ale. An IPA is a type of ale, but an ale nonetheless.
I am just glad Americans are drinking something other than Busch and it's various derivatives, I lived in St. Louis for several years where the main Budweiser brewery is (was??). It is good to know micro brews and real beer is being drunk by people outside of Europe.

Nope, this happens commonly. The link you used must be only visible to you, so probably a picture from your e-mail I'm guessing? And yea you guy's do have different terminologies. Pale ales are really common here, and I guess those are considered "real" ales.
I'm in St. Louis! We have a couple GREAT new breweries over the past couple of years.

And lastly, my favorite new brewery "4 Hands"

Sweet, I love STL still, great town. I lived in Chesterfield most of the time, but stayed downtown near the loop/U-City for a few months here and there.
I uploaded the pic same as I always do, from my desktop to my pics folder, clicked on the URL to copy and paste... Weird. Never mind, check out the St. Peter's stuff if you ever come across it, well worth trying. We are spoiled for good beer over here, lot of breweries have been making stuff the same way for hundreds of years.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for any of those new STL brews, that place still feels like home and it's over 15 years since I lived there full-time.

I'll be keeping an eye out, there's a couple places that have a bunch of imports.
I lived in U-city and Webster for a bit when I was in school, but I have a home on the east side (IL) now up on the bluff. Love having my space while still being close to the city.
It really is a homey city, I enjoyed living other places but it feels homier than anywhere else. Then again, I was born and raised here
The loop gets better every year, it seems Great culture there.

If you want the full absinthe experience here in the states (the main active ingredient, wormwood, is illegal here-- there are a few municipalities that are allowed to sell a limited version). That said, you can achieve the same results with the following ingredients:
1) A bag of candy flavored with star anise (licorice candy will work nicely) 2) A strong friend, preferably with a strong arm 3) A metal pipe no thinner than your thigh 4) Gauze, +/- life insurance

I have never had Absinthe that tasted of anise.. I have had several varieties from the Czech Republic with high Wormwood content which are overproof (70%+) strength. Usually it just tastes like herbal fire, kinda nasty, but not really similar to anything else I have tasted..
