I love gentlemans jack! I sprung for Jack single barrel before which is about $20 more than gentlemans, but it wasnt any smoother so eff that stuff.
But I prefer makers mark overall but if I want a good scotch I glenlivet 15 or 18

Some people love the taste of nice liquors And those that do scoff of the idea of mixers, lest it's a finely made cocktail. I like old-fashioneds, ocassionally a manhatten, but aside from that I'll take my rye/bourbon/scotch neat, or with ice and club soda (called a whiskey/scotch and water) depending on what time it is and what mood I'm in. Liquor can has some great flavors once your tongue/palate is accustomed. Whiskeys by far my favorite type, but I enjoy the earthy flavors of nice tequilla, the sweet mollasses of good rum, and the spicy herbal flavors of gin.
I'll drink water over shitty brands of liquor

I like good beer and good gin, but I wouldn't spend more than 13 bucks on a 6 pack. Also, good gin isn't worth the extra money IMO even if it does taste a lot better.

I'll drop $10+ on a 22oz bottle of beer when one I love, or a great one I've wanted to try comes around. I've been drinking Red's Rye PA (rye IPA, one of my favorites) lately which is $10/4-pack. Since wet-hop/hop-harvest beers are right around the corner , I'm about to spend $10-$20 on a few different 22ozs (bombers), 4 or 6 packs. But since I can't afford that much consistently, I stock my fridge with Sierra Nevada's Torpedo IPA at $13/12-pack, and several other IPAs that are ~$6-8/6-pack as my every-day beers. I have a couple Dragon's Milk (bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout) in the fridge, and that was $18/4-pack.
So again, for me I just have to budget so that I CAN get a really nice beer whenever it's available.
And in terms of liquor, I somewhat agree. My daily go-to's are rye Wild Turkey and Rittenhouse rye, both at $20/750mL (fifth). I also have a bottle of Buffalo Trace Bourbon, and Glenfiddich 12 scotch that I don't touch nearly as much. If I COULD afford to drink the better stuff all the time, I would, but I'm fine with the (still good) cheaper options for the day-to-day.

Bombay+Campari+Amaretto/Grand Mariner
You want some good tasting liquor? Whiskey: Bulliet Gin: Bombay Sapphire Vodka: Vodka and taste? HA.... Get something russian, they would know. Tequila: Fuck if I know, I forget everything including what it tastes like after I drink it. Make Baja Fogs. Rum: Sailor Jerry's
Torpedo kicks ass

Torpedos are way more expensive than that around here, they are like 10 bucks a 6 pack. I don't like Stouts or any aged beer really, and most of the hoppy ales around me are at most like 7-8 bucks for a 22 oz. My local liqour store has the biggest selection of beer on the East Coast with over 2,000 different beers so I have a very large selection of good beer that isn't too expensive. I can try a different beer each day for the rest of my life if I wanted to without drinking the same beer twice. http://www.buyritewines.com/flash/buyrite360.html

@fapjack Yea I'm not one for east-coast british-style IPAs really.. I mean they're good but I love the fruitier West-Coast ones. However, you're close to Vermont and I would be living exclusively off of Heady Topper Sierra Nevada should get a lot cheaper for you soon, they're starting a new brewery in NC really soon. But man do I feel lucky now! Those are ridiculous prices.
@lynch
The new fall IPA "Flipside" is great too. Tastes like an amber with a blend of hops that tastes close to Lagunitas IPA Damn good. Just picked some more up today, even
I LOL'd at that vodka comment Stolichnaya(sp??) I.e. Stoli is a decent russian one, I guess, but I don't really drink it.
I really like Tanqueray as a cheaper go-to gin, too. Can't beat Beefeater though IMO, but Bombays great
Sailor Jerry's is a good spiced rum, but I REALLY like "Appleton's" rum Damn-near drinking mollasses and brown sugar.
Bulleits a great whiskey too I forget about it for some reason. One of my favorite go-to's (I.e. cheap) is "old grand-dad" in the bright orange bottle. Wish I could find it easier Its awesome IMO in that its leaning closer to a rye than a bourbon, but still definitely somewhere in-between.

Taste is subjective, however there are some tastes that are very popular.

You almost cant go wrong with Bacardi Superior. Its readily available and tastes good to most people either neat (80 proof) or mixed with just about anything. Its well distilled, not harsh.

Personally I hate Bacardi superior Not that it's too bad, but far from flavorful IMO
Blind I just cracked a "Flipside" red IPA (Sierra Nevada) myself. I don't mind Jack, but 10/10 times I'll grab the regular Wild Turkey 101 over it. I'm not much for Tennessee/sour-mashes, but I LOVE my ryes which are much more sour than regular bourbons or Jack/Tennessee-whiskeys I used to love it, though; it was one of the first whiskeys I ever had.

It has nothing to do with your unneeded rating, and everything to do with it being a mediocre, average at best, beer.
You can check the BA ratings that agree with me.

It certainly isn't among the best-rated brown ales, that's for sure.
I just always try to be encouraging to try new things, personally. Hence why I recommend some other (better) brown ales

This is true. OP if you are a whiskey drinker then why not go with that? If you want a non-whiskey mixed drink, pick up some kahlua, vodka, and milk. You really can't go wrong with that combo.

That's a damn good one too.
I still like my whiskey & waters (club soda, and on ice) whenever I'm planning on getting tanked. Silly people give me a funny look when I gulp one down like it's a glass of ice water But to me, it really IS refreshing

Op unless you are going to hide out in the woods or whatever. vodka/gin n tonics with a splash of lime or lemon = no hang over. Woods drinks = at least a pint of anything goes and a 12 pack to chase it with. Just don't fall down the hillside while shitfaced.
