Lions mane are very easy if you have lots of fresh air.

I have never grown them on straw but i have heard they will fruit if its packed densely enough (though yields will be lower than if using sawdust.)

Have I ate them? I have grown over 1000lbs of them
They taste great BTW, like crab, scallops or lobster tail.

which strain do you recommend? I've been wanting to grow lions mane but I think I saw on out-grow two different types of lions mane. Also, I have been closed minded to growing any hardwood strains until recently, today I found hardwood fuel pellets on sale in Lowes. so now I have a shitload of hardwood (sawdust?). I guess they are sawdust, not really sure.
I'm trying to figure out which strains to grow also and I got an indoor greenhouse and king stropharia LC, but come to find out fruiting RSA inside is a bitch!. I'll have to wait till spring and make a stropharia outdoor bed...

I got my strain in a trade; i dont know its origins. Most likely your looking at 2 different species H.erinaceus and one of the other ones such as H. abietis, H. americanum, and H. coralloides. True lons mane is H. erinaceus but im sure the other ones would be interesting to grow.
And yes fuel pellets are compressed sawdust.
