Transcendence
    #1894830 - 09/08/03 05:08 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

is it really transcendence, or have I just found something to hang on to while the rest of humanity continues on its long downward spiral?

everything is relative.

either way, I'd appreciate a helping hand out of this downward spiral,
kinda tough to pull myself out, everything being relative n all...

actually, now that I think of it, that's the Christian viewpoint. the goal isn't transcendence, it's salvation. being saved while the rest of humanity goes to hell. in this view, the reference point is the self - an ego based model of spirituality.

with transcendence, the reference point is humanity.
I guess once you shed your ego, you become naturally buoyant.

If you cling to me as your Guru, I'm afraid my ego will sink us both.

I never want to be a guru. it's an ego trap. not for true seekers.

to shed the ego I suggest you immerse yourself in nature.
five days alone in the wilderness can do wonders for you.

I've spent entire weeks alone in the wilderness to no avail.
But I will give it one more shot...

hhhmmmmm.. every path is unique so maybe nature isn't for you.
I'm no guru so I can't tell you what would work for you. I can only share what has worked for me. there's something about the "graininess" of nature, the repeating patterns and rich textures that make me feel a part of a whole. I feel the boundry between me and the universe becoming fuzzy and then dissolving. my individuality melts away and I become a part of the collective organism. it makes me feel insignificant, like if I just layed down and died, mother nature would just consume me and no one would notice a thing. It's a release for me. I go out there, release the mind and dissolve into the landscape.

Actually, nature was always an inseperable part of me, I used
to spend days/weeks meditating in forests, or by lakes,
before "all of this"
haha, I might be inclined to say that this goes to show that no ammount of spirituality, thinking,
not-thinking, contemplating, zazen, letting go, transendence
can free one from the suffering created by the mind...
but I'd be wrong...
It happens to the best of us, n there must be a way out...

imagine we are all given cars to drive around in. you can go anywhere and do anything you like in your car.
some people get on a circuit and race round and round as fast as they can, getting in front of others but never really get anywhere.
others just sit in the carpark on their asses.
others drive off on long journeys exploring the beauties of land and time.
some people drive carefully and considerately, others impatiently shunt and honk their way through.
others get out of their cars and stand on top of them, claiming to have freed themselves from mechanical bondage and inciting others to do the same.
sooner or later, the car-perchers realise they are not really going anywhere and have to get back behind the wheel to make progress. hopefully their driving skills have not diminished due to lack of practise.
real transcendence comes thru mastery of ones vehicle and using it in the best way possible, not from climbing out of it.

Interesting.

What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?

hey thanks, that was nice but it ain't like that

I have no intention of leaving my vehicle. it's just an occasional release for me. like getting out for a while, walking around, stretching my legs, taking a piss and getting back in the car refreshed and ready for the road, ya know?
