can someone help explain this? (pic)
    #18948096 - 10/08/13 03:56 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

This is my first grow so everything is new to me. I'm using pf tek with brf/verm. the cakes have been in the fruiting chamber for 4 days now and the ends of the growth on the cake in the picture barely got a bluish green tinge today. does it look normal? could it be contaminated? is that possible this late in the process? I don't even know if that's what pins are supposed to look like. any insight is appreciated. thanks guys!

That's just bruising. Nothing to worry about.

You should drill some holes in that tub.

What kind of fruiting chamber is that?

Your cakes are bruising from heavy misting. But they are correct, drill some 1/4 inch holes every 2 inches in a grid pattern on all sides of your chamber. Make sure you have 4 inch wet perlite in the bottom. Then your GTG you will see pins shortly.

Ive tried the holes open and with poly fill. Faning is what work best for me dont mean its best for you

You are fixing a low RH problem by cutting down FAE. You can't have too much FAE. By fanning with no holes you are limiting the potential of your fruits. You need to go back to holes and figure out how to keep your RH up.

My RH is fine. Just personly i have better luck with fanning. IMO ones with the holes had less flushes and less total dry weight. So i stayed with fanning. Plus i enjoy it, dont try and take my joy away

This is not an IME or IMO question, it's basic physics.

But we do not usually fan for FAE, the chamber should give it to you constantly regardless.

We usually fan only after misting, to promote evaporation.

So i ask why so anal on everything haveing to be your way. Stuff works differnt for everyone so go with what works

Stamets says the shrooms want 3-5 full exchanges of air every hour.
RR, if I recall correctly, says to go for 5-6 pr hour.
That means you would have to fan every 10-12 mins in a closed up tote..

It's not "our" way...it's the way that has been handed down buy successive generations of professional cultivators. If you'd been growing since the 80's...this thread wouldn't exist....sterilizing your bulk sub is a NO NO...idc how much success you've had with it...your grow will improve with proper pasteurization. 3-4 dry oz from one jar of spawn?.... I call shenanigans.
