hi all, first time post, thanks for the help, been fun to read and see all the great fungii fotos

today (mon)

Habitat:
on a bulldozed (3-4yrs ago) stump which has dirt affixed, near a field that was seeded at that time with a clover/grass mix. Maybe maple, i forgot to pull some of the bark off and look at it, my guess is that from the shape of the roots etc.

locale: NE Ohio

Gills:
Dark brown at maturity, lighter brown earlier; fairly close,  attached, narrowly adnate/adnexed

Stem:
white, thin (3mm x 4cm) not hollow, not brittle, fine fibers
dirt sometimes stayed attached at the foot

Cap:
brown, esp. when wet, drying to more of a darker buckskin tone, the really wet ones more walnut darker
circular plano-convex to convex; more planar as it aged under the stump
diam 3cm (about the biggest one i saw, more smaller)
Flesh fairly thin, but for a small shroom at least visible - lighter color inside, more of a pale brown / antique white
taste mild to not much (spit test)

Spore print color:
v. dark brown - not sure if its purplish, but indoor lighting not helpful.

Bruising:
no notable bruising even after several hours & ripping a cap in half

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom : mushroomy

These are some 'before' and later pictures.  Unfortunately I had to come back after I'd noticed these and was unable to get the first collection (seen in my hand) back home.  By the time I was able to get back properly several hard-rains had come and gone and the lil guys were showing some wear and tear.  Fortunately, I was able to twist upside down and find a couple fruits down under where they were  completely sheltered and these are and what i used for the inside pics, printing and measurements.  Luckily they were pretty pristine, not even a bug on em which is super rare in late summer it seems, esp. after days n days and hordes of hungry slugs and maggots.

After lurking and looking at pictures all over the net, I figure I would ask the LBM specialists and save some time.  Besides, its just plain great to be able to ask *anyone* lol.

Thanks for the imput
