ID request: UK cubes?
    #18945036 - 10/07/13 02:08 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

okay these were found about 200m elevation slopy ground, liberty cap field, growing on (horse?) poop
size: 1-3cm cap, golden brown, darker towards middle, white stem, some white specks on the caps.
small specimin found with viel still intact.
spore print: purple brown
gills: pale on that small one, larger ones had darker gills
some faint blue bruising on base of some stems, dried they look exactly like small cubes.

If anyone could ID the four on the right I'd be very grateful, I thought they could be strange shaped libs like id found elsewhere in the field but some of them were growing on/through the poop

closeup of 2nd species

looks remarkably like these strange libs I mentioned earlier except the poop shroom had whiter stem.

note: IDs are much less confusing when mushies are dry

Might be Psilocybe fimetaria you should send a few out for microscopy.

Maybe an inactive deconica species? Still it's a cool mushroom I'm guessing it'll raise a few brows.

thanks  are you reffering to the 2nd species?
because judging from pics I think maynardjameskeenan might be right about the main lot being fimetaria

side note: mega excited about these, first time finding anything active other than libs.

I can't see the blue and would have said Deconica coprophila but if the stems are definitely blueing then they must be Psilocybe fimetaria.

im still super curious about these, they dont look like any pics of deconica I can find online.
anyone interested in getting a sample for microscopy?

You brought pound of shit with mushroom on it to your home just to see it mature? That's what I call dedication. :billymaythumbup:

They look very similar to some I found last year. Interested to see what these come out as if you get them 'scoped.

If first is blueing. p. fimetaria, else deconica coprophila.
I would call the second p. semilanceata var. strictipes.

It's fine.

starting to accept that theyre probably deconica but yes tetra, I did see that post of yours. very very similar indeed, maybe ill drop workman a pm too

and thank you very much cbub! after having a browse of strictipes pics I think you're right. wish id picked them now, that'll teach me to go out with only 1 container

The stems of Protostropharia are slimy or smooth/rubbery/brittle even when they are drying out, the gill attachment is so adnate as to be almost perpendicular, and velar remnants are glutinous. The caps can be lookalikes but in such a large collection we would need some evidence for that ID.
