Shook my grains today ?

My grains were completely covered on the outsides so I gave 3 jars a shake and now it a light even coat on the grain. My question should the grain be completely white after shaking before casing ? This Mycelium is spreading faster and faster everyday.

Most people don't shake the jars after full colonization until right before spawning. It takes energy away from the mycelium to recolonize.

I'm just doing half of them that way experimenting.

When you break up the grain, the mycelium tends to "disappear." It is still fully colonized.
Also, you can break up the grains many times, don't listen to anyone who says otherwise.
Some people break up their grains at 100% and let them recover before spawning, to ensure that they are not contam'd.
Some people do 5-6 grain to grain transfers before spawning to bulk. This involves many master jars that get broken up and spawned. They perform fine
OP, if they were fully covered in white mycelium when you shook them, they are ready to spawn.

Really? Pretty much everything I've read (and therefore done) has said otherwise. Isn't it extremely stressful to the myc to shake a bunch of times unnecessarily?

If you can perform 5-6 G2G transfers with no loss of performance, then one extra shake and toss to ensure cleanliness sure won't hurt it much more than repeated G2G, will it?
That's a lot of breaking up the grains and recovering.
I've seen no loss of performance on my isolates when giving the grains an extra shake or two.
I'm not encouraging everyone to shake their jars 5 times before spawning, just saying that one extra shake to check for cleanliness will not cause an issue

I've done multiple shakes on my jars and have never noticed any bad results.

Have you noticed beneficial results?

I notice beneficial results if my jar is colonizing unevenly and I shake it a second time to speed full colonization by a few days
Plus there is the benefit of the contam test, shake at 100% and leave the lid on. It should recover properly in 48 hours or less. I believe stamets talks about this in GGMM too.

Sometimes if I have 6 jars colonizing, there will be one or two that are behind the rest. I shake those and they almost always catch up to the others in no time.

I did not want to say this but the main reason I asked is because I very experienced when it comes to growing tomato plants and if you give them them the right amount stress of stress at the beginning you will have a way better product at the end. I had to re-teach plenty of people who heard shaking your tomato plants is bad for plant, it's only bad to shake the plants close to and after fruiting . This is my very first time growing fungi I'm about to rob my local grocery store of some portabella stems and experiment with cloning any clone tips?
