Too late to start growing P. allenii
    #18947457 - 10/07/13 11:05 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I have a single faint spore print from a Psilocybe allenii I found last year (I'm in the PNW).  I never got around to trying to grow it.  Is it far too late in the season now to do so and expect to get any kind of a harvest this year?  I did find it in late Dec of last year, so that would only give me just under 3 months.  Any thoughts on what, if anything, I should do with this print?

Start your culture in Nov-Dec, that will give you plenty of time to clean it up, and limit the genetics a bit. P allenii is very slow on grains, will probably take a month or more to colonize a couple quarts. By the time you have a clean culture and then colonized spawn you will be just in time to start your woodchip spawn. By the time that's ready it should almost be spring and you can move it outdoors then.

Good luck

Ha!  Ok, so I really gotta practice my patience here.  Ok, I'll give it a shot and see what happens.  Thanks Pastywhyte.

Btw, I've tried researching how to grow wood-loving psilocybe outdoors on shroomery.org and I've found it hard to decide upon a trustworthy guide.  If anyone can point me to a link (or something) that will help a noob like me in doing this, that would be great!
