So in the past month I've noticed my wbs which is the cheap red and white bags have just became junk. I got a 20lb bag a few weeks ago and dumped it's contents into my bucket and started filling with water.. as I started scooping I noticed it was all straw.. so after 5 minutes I realized it wasn't worth the time and dumped it in the woods.
Today I decided to try again and got a 40 lb bag. When I opened it I was relieved to see millet. After adding my water and starting to sift my sunflower seeds out I noticed an abundant amount of tiny premature sunflower seeds.
So I attempted to remove them but there were way to many. Do you think they will effect my jars?

I use wbs as well. Never found any drawbacks to the sunflower seeds or straw. I remove the straw if it is an obnoxiously large piece or a lot in general, but it doesnt seem to affect colonization at all.

I use most likely the same stuff. Considering the price, the quality does vary from season to season as well as between bags. It's the price you pay for not paying a high price.
Anywho........I've never found it not to work and as long as I don't find any sticks or corn in it, I could care less.

WBS varies wildly by brand and region.
A bad batch every now and again doesn't necessarily indicate that it will always be that way.
I have to ask, was it really 100% straw? That seems like something you should report to the store you bought it from...straw is not bird seed
