A good friend found these on some stateland on the edge of the forest. They appear to be muscarias, possibly Formosa but we're looking for confirmation

I'm no expert but I'd say it's not muscaria.

We would probably need to know everything more about them before being able to ID them.
Like...size, country/region, what the base of the stem looks like, what trees are nearby. I don't know a lot about Amanita sp., but I do know that if you're looking for fly agarics, it has to have all of these things, otherwise it's not of the A. muscaria species group:
1) bulbous stem base with shaggy concentric rings (no sack-like volva) 2) white/pale yellow warts on cap (duh) 3) a skirt-like ring on the stipe
Maybe A. parcivolvata? They don't all look like the same species, especially the first 2 pics.

The area they were found in was mostly deciduous: oaks, elms, popples, and some undergrowth shrubs. The lighting was more filtered sunlight, the soil was not overly moist, they were scattered among decaying logs, and they were growing in more of a colony fashion. Here's #1

Also in close proximity to dead fiddlehead ferns near new popple growth. Very loamy sort of soil.
