identification needed
    #18946063 - 10/07/13 06:17 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

found these in my backyard.

white stem.
tan cap, domed/darker with age.

growing by some roots in a mulchy area.

any chance they be liberty caps. not wavy or flat so couldn't be cyans.

let it sit for spores, got a black spot, but idk if its the spores or just dirt....

Could also be an inky cap like maybe Coprinopsis, would be hard to know for sure without doing DNA work or identifying it as a species that DNA work has already been done for.

They have purple prints and don't look anything like any coprinoid I have
ever seen.

Please tell me more of what you speak Byrain.

I present you Coprinopsis marcescibilisHere is the paper with the new name, pretty much Psathyrellaceae is a mess...

I think the way the specimens are collapsing reminds of some inky caps, but that is certainly not conclusive.

Holy moly sir. That is cool. What genus isn't a mess.
I get what you are seeing.

I will still have to respectfully disagree.

thing is the Psathyrellaceae around here have that inky gross look when they are young and can dry out and change color with age. but these guys turned inky and collapsed with age.. sorta the reverse growing process in color/shape

That would suggest Coprinopsis.
