Current pot law map * 2

This is a colorized map I made of the current marijuana situation in the United States, regarding legislation towards relaxing penalties for marijuana.

We're getting there, but there's still way too many states which haven't approved any legislation on the topic yet, and have serious penalties for marijuana violations.

We don't even have a medical program in MD.

You guys have a law which allows those who are using marijuana for medical purposes to use that as a defense. If a person is convicted of a marijuana related crime but has a legitimate medical use for it, they can be only fined up to a maximum of $100. However, it still is a misdemeanor.

The problem with that law is you can only present your defense at trial not before. So you get fined 100.00 and a bill for 10,000 for your defense.

Them agricultural states sure hate the idea of hemp don't they?  There's more behind it than it getting you high that causes those states to be anti-hemp.  The corn-oil industry sure despises it...

Heh, a good number of em anyways. However, if you look, some of the agricultural states which have some of the strictest pot laws have allowed for the cultivation of hemp. Kentucky's a good example, although one still cannot obtain permits to grow hemp in that state until the Federal government gives the state a waiver to do so (luls.)

It's the dirty south, and those center states that are still a cause for concern. Along with those "weird-people" northern states :p

Lol, me too.

Btw I do plan to update this map as the pot/hemp laws change. I actually need to make some changes since I believe a couple states may have approved medical marijuana and a couple approved hemp production since I made it. I will research this, and update it accordingly...when I get some more free time.

Have that in Minnesota too, but it's only for terminal illness, so I can't use it for my chronic back pain from scoliosis. Fortunately, most people actually don't give a fuck here. I've smoked a joint in my driveway and had my neighbor who is a pastor wave and smile at me as we walked it dog past me. Then again, his daughter who is apparently my age has the same disease I do so maybe he knows it's for medical reasons  But yeah, I can walk down the street while smoking a bowl with friends or have a blunt out on my porch with my girlfriend and nothing happens. Maybe it's because I live in Minneapolis though, I think people may be more lenient here than in the small town farms to the North

(*Edited post to fix image after server bug*)

Alright, we had some progress in these past two months. I am hereby uploading the new version of this map

There is also legislation being sent to the governor in Oregon which would lower penalties for possession/cultivation, a bill relating to hemp cultivation in California, and a medical marijuana initiative being filed in Florida. Maine has added PTSD to their list of qualifying conditions for medical marijuana.

-----------

2013 June 29 updates:
* Changed Vermont (VT)'s status from medical marijuana to decriminalized. See http://thejointblog.com/marijuana-decriminlization-takes-effect-in-vermont-on-monday/

* Changed New Hampshire (NH)'s status from highly illegal to medical marijuana. See http://thejointblog.com/medical-cannabis-legalized-in-new-hampshire/
