Liberty Caps on a building site? ( UK )
    #18944048 - 10/07/13 10:19 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hello, im rather new to picking mushrooms, ive had them before but they was dried out like tobacco and couldnt tell if they are the same as these what ive found. im working on a bulding site building new houses in a suburban area. There is absolutely loads of them all growing on the short grass in the front of peoples gardens. the soil and grass has been delivered but im not sure where abouts from. Ive plucked a few and im hoping you could identify them for me. they are kinda like liberty caps but ive never picked them before so im not 100% and ive heard you can go blind/lose a kidney if your wrong hahaha. I hope ive given enough info ive tried my best!
Thanks in advance
Alex

Habitat: on a building site with newly laid topsoil/grass. grass hadn't been cut since it was laid possibly 2-3 months ago?

Gills:slightly darker at bottom, not attached to stem

Stem: 1.5"- 2" long - 2mm-4mm diameter, darker at the bottom. hollow/thin

Cap:0.5" - 1" darker nipple, smooth, conical, after being in my room for a while they do feel quite slimy?

Spore print color: brown i think?

Bruising: dark?

Other information: smells strongly of the typical mushroom you eat.

They aren't similar besides being terrestrial LBMs.

Check out these threads to see pictures of what you are looking for (and what to avoid!):

For a spore print, gently remove the cap from the stem and place the cap gills down on white paper/foil and set aside in a draft free place overnight (alternatively you can place a cup over it). Good luck next time!
