Armilarria sp. ?
    #18943999 - 10/07/13 10:03 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.

riparian zone, on a huge cottonwood log.
Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.
cream colored ,  adnexed

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.
Thick , white and shaggy, base bruising slight yellow and brown.

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

the center of cap is smooth, moist and yellow, the rest of the cap is shaggy like the stipe.

Spore print color:
Very important!

caps are still buttons so i couldnt print them.

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

This mushroom is very distinct, and I was quite perplexed why I couldnt place it in a genus right off the bat. At first I was like " oh rad I found a neolentinus , maybe its the one Ganzig wants! "
But when I got home and peeked through a few books I am doubtful of that. So now I am leaning towards Armillaria. Could it be in that genus? I often forget about Armillaria.

This bigger mushroom was growing on a cedar about 5 feet away, could be the same thing I was thinking?

Roger's and Kuo's collections do show some differences and I certainly haven't observed this before, but it does seem very close to many other representations of this species floating around the internet.

Whatever it turns out to be, I agree it's a very unique looking collection! :ooo:

Totally. I have  been wanting a culture of this species.

Some say it is edible some say it is not. That means that it is and I want it!
