Gallons you can

Hi, All! Here is my recent experiment with 1 gallon water bottle for bulk spawning. The bottle was completely colonized after 7 days. You can also use soda bottle and other clear plastic bottles that are easy to loosen up the spawn grains too. What do you think?

Yes, I realized the risk involved. Either way it is like a gamble. If it contam it will eventually no matter how big or small. There are ways to min contam if you take the precaution to. I believe I got this process down by now. Doing it big is a risk but do nothing is also a risk. Having enough for back ups is good if the first batch got screwed.

2 quarts of spawn to a five gallon bucket with two quarts of coir and a quart of verm will give you around 3.5 inches.

I just spawned some to a 5 gallon bucket a little over a week ago. Not sure whether it's going to work or not, but it was extra spawn so I figured why not. I'll be opening it in a few days, hopefully it all looks clean.

Yes, you can do it too! This is a G2G transfer method. Method 1: I hollowed out a quart jar that has been fully colonized with WBS. Then poured the new WBS into the hollow hole surrounded by myc at 360'. Within 3 days the new WBS are all colonized. Since established myc colonized faster this is a good way to increase spawn production. The fast colonization will shorten the time needed to colonize the newly added WBS therefore it should out compete any contam mold. Method 2: The usual G2G transfer into a gallon size or soda bottle. The 3 days colonized WBS are easy to scoop out since they are very loose. I put the scooped out myc. with the new WBS mixed into a gallon size water bottle or soda bottle. This method works because the previous WBS has no contamination to start with while the new WBS added are all sterilized.

Scooping the mycelium out of a qt jar isn't a good idea. Are you useing a spoon to hollow out your master jar? This can lead to contamination. Doing it over and over and over and putting it in a water bottle anysize is asking for contamination. It's a cool idea and I'm going to give you +5 , its just not very likely to work. I could be wrong. Have fun with the experiment and good luck

So did you pc your WBS or just soak. Im going to do about 30% on 3 gallons. Biggest i can get into pc.

I do everything inside a still air box that was cleaned with rubbing alcohol before hand. The myc is too stiff to scoop with a spoon. I did no use a spoon but a 6" knife instead. Make sure to disinfect the knife or anything you put in there first. All the jars got rubbed with antibacterial hand sanitizer gel (99.9%) before going in the still air box. Anything larger I will need more myc. to colonize it. But I am happy with the plastic bottle because I can hit it without worry of breaking the bottle.
All the WBS are fully PC at 90 minutes because too much nasty stuffs in there. You can say they're full of molds and all kinds of blue, green, red and brown contams. I have never use them without PC first. Too risky for me. You can try it on 1 jar to see for yourself to further evaluate.
If there is any contam then it has to come from the new WBS since the old WBS are all colonized now. So you can say the PC process is not enough to kill off the contam spores. Of course, it is hard to say for certain because we cannot see the microscopic contam spores in our environment.

Knife.... Spoon... Anything going in that jar is not a good idea. I'm telling you before long you'll see contamination. It's only a matter of time. How did you sterilize your water bottle?
How is the water bottle getting gas exchange? Threw a crack in the lid seal? How is the GE being filtered? When you go to break up the grain, every time you hit that bottle its going to push air out, and sucks contamated air in. Just saying man. I already gave you +5 for effort. I just don't want you to waist all you supplies.

Here is an update on the gallon size plastic water jug. On WBS only there isn't much nutrients, I think, to support a good fruiting substrate. But they are forming pins and small size mushrooms already. See the pic. as I don't have a proper fruiting chamber yet.

You can't PC HDPE or PETE, so IDK what you're lying about or leaving out, but it's something.
I'd pay you $5 for an uncut video of you PCing grain at 15 PSI for 90 minutes in a HDPE water jug.

Since it is a G2G transfer method, all you need is a clean gallon size plastic water jug. I did not PC the jug because it will melt just use it as is. I rinsed it out first with H2O2 before adding the WBS and myc. mixture. Do you think it will fruit to size if I take the whole thing out and fruit it inside a clear plastic tote? I'll have to cut the top or bottom off to take it out though.

Grains don't hold enough moisture which is why we spawn to bulk or case them. I'd break them up and do either because you'll probably not get much else out of them otherwise.
