What do cyan primordia look like?
    #18941815 - 10/06/13 06:58 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hey shroomery,

I've been multiplying my mycelium bank of cyans and allenii throughout the summer, and I ran out of usable wood chips for a while but now I came upon a huge bag of chips. There's 2 problems however.

I can't tell if there is primordia growing on some of my colonized chips, so I can't decide if I should mix it all with new chips. I have observed in the part couple days some little white balls forming on some of my mycelium, both indoors and out, as well as a couple tiny little fingerish things that appear to be growing upwards, which are only on the little bit I put in a minifridge. Can somebody supply pictures of the earliest stages of cyan primordia?

I'm not sure if the wood chips are viable , because they might be some conniver like redwood. There is no leaves in them or needles so only the wood and bark pieces to tell by. They look very fresh, and dark almost reddish amber color, and the bark looked a tiny bit like redwood to me except it was not thick at all. Should I use it anyway? With little bark in it is redwood even that bad for the myc?

They are white with burnt orange/carmel tops.

Like so...

Allensi and Azure pins look very similar.

Nice picture, but I have seen pictures and specimens like that stage but I am so eager I want to know if little round balls of mycelium could be primordia forming or is there no way to tell until it looks like that? Thank you for the reply however.

Are looking for primordia in an outdoor bed or tub because you see something but are worried its not P.Cyans?

In any case, it shouldn't take long for those bumps to turn into some kind of pins no matter the species.

Inthebiggun, they are wood chips completely colonized by cyans and alleniis, if you are implying these bumps are primordia, then Mushrooms may be on the way as we speak. I was thinking of putting ice from the freezer out on my outdoor beds to initiate fruiting faster, as here in  it can be common to have no frost until late December.

Ah, ok...

Neither species you mention need frost to start fruiting, just cool temps. In fact both start fruiting in first week of September around here, a good month and a half before first frost.

If you live in a warm climate, you only need temps below 50f to initiate fruiting.

That's what most people seem to believe and maybe you are right. It has actually dropped into the 40s in the past week or two, so if the theory is correct then I should have at least some pins on the way. I'm just sceptical so because last year I didn't find alleniis until almost nov and cyans until early December. I hope it is not a problem but I live on top of a hill at the bottom of a mountain range so really close to my house in the valley it gets about 10 degrees colder than here and maybe it is not cold enough for fruiting.

Not sure what others are going on... I go on personal experience growing woodlovers over the last several years.

I'm no expert on cyan but that doesn't look healthy...

Hard to say whats going on there... doesn't look very colonized, but it could be just the pic. I see the white bumps your talking about, but I dunno. Even if you set it outside in a cool spot I think it would better then leaving it in the fridge.

I'm hoping its Cyans for you. Keep us posted.

The myc in the picture is pretty much completely colonized wood chips but the stuff that looks uncolinized is most likely a mixture of coco coir and verm I put on top of it a couple months ago. I just looked at the bin that the pictured stuff came from, and there are many many little white balls as well as one pin about half an inch tall with a brown top, it looks so cute I hope it doesn't die. I'll post pics.

Here's some pics of the outdoor plastic container that the ones in the fridge were cut from. The sides of it have pins forming against the wall every inch or two. If they are in fact pins, should I remove it from the plastic and put it in some container the fruits can grow in? The left pic shows the biggest one but there are a few other brown topped ones like in the last photo and some on the side I couldn't get a shot of.

Edit: found these allenii pins in a wood box. Their deep blue at the top and it looks like about 30-50 of them will grow in that 2 inch area lol :crazy2::mushroom2:

Pretty much all of the pins I posted pics of got eaten by insects at night or aborted themselves. I think it was too hot. Luckily, I have a lot more pins on the way and they seem to be healthier than the first ones. I will post pics, I hope they turn into some nice Godfingers.
