NW Kansas need identification
    #18940793 - 10/06/13 03:21 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hi guys, first let me say I am totally a beginner at this, I've never eaten a wild mushroom ever.  Today I was out taking in a trail walk at the local lake and found a large group of these mushrooms.  As I have zero experience of what to look for I took one and thought I'd see if you guys knew what kind it is.  Temperature now is around 70F, it had been dropping to 40F at night and we have had lots of rain the past few weeks.  There isn't any real perceptiable odor to the mushroom it's cap is brownish white as can be seen from the pics.  The difference between this group of them and the ones I normally find are that the gills on the underside are black, or iridescent purple blue color depending on the light.  Thanks in advance for any help.

OK thanks Paracelsus, I'll google that name and see what I can find out.  Also I forgot to say that they were growing at the bottom stump inset of a rotting tree.

Looks like a Coprinopsis to me.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.
