Contamination or odd growth/blob?
    #18940358 - 10/06/13 01:35 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Showed up on a consolidated cake after birthing and placement in fruiting chamber. Looked like peanut butter. I made a smaller SGFC for a couple cakes because they appeared too wet and wouldn't finish consilidating. (~95% consolidated, everything except for parts of the bottom.) They smelled mildly sweet but not in a bad way, but mostly smelled like mushrooms. Kept them isolated just in case.

Is it an ingrown pin/mutant or a contaminate? I moved some verm away from the area to get a better look. Six hours later it looked a little blue/green (bruising/mold?) so I decided to dissect it outside and slice the cake and see what's going on with it.

After slicing the growth in half it looked like the inside of a mushroom. The cake however didn't seem too colonized on the inside.

A couple days later a found a similar but different growth in my main fruiting chamber. Showed up about the same time as the pins started forming. This one didn't look so much like peanut butter, but more like a ingrown stem. Also, didn't have any coloring to it. Can anyone identify this?

About the last one. It could be pins judging by the color, which is similar to the other pins stem color. What's the consistency of the mass when you touch it ?

Solid, not liquid or powdery.
