Resource bottleneck...
    #18939546 - 10/06/13 10:14 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Sorry if this is redundant, but I felt it warranted another thread.

Note 3 is out in 4 days on big red, and I wanted to look into accessories... I am gonna get the wireless charger, otterbox defender, but what SD card should I get?

This question is complicated by the title of the thread. The phone used USB 3.0. 3.0 can transfer up to 4 gbps. Now, I know I won't get such speeds, but what would be the bottleneck on the resources? I don't think it would be the USB port, so either I need a really fast micro SD card, or the phone internals would bottleneck...

But it is kind of dumb for Samsung to put the fastest USB available, just to have their own hardware stop it from working at full capacity...

So:

1. Is the SD card or phone internals likely going to bottleneck?
2. If it is the phone, how can I fix it/speed it up?
3. If it is the SD card, can I get suggestions for 64+gb SD cards... (MONEY IS NO OBJECT!!)(This will be my phone for a while so I need something future-proof)

The biggest internal bottleneck is the write speed to the SD card from the USB. Also USB is generally a lower IRQ priority than other processes, if you can allocate dedicated memory blocks to the USB it will greatly speed it up internally. You should get a SD card that is made for HD video duty. The biggest issue will be the internet link and that is where the real bottleneck will occur, sadly not much can be done here because you are at the mercy of your ISP.

I see... what about local files... Take say 60 gigs of local stuff from a USB 3.0 external HDD and through a USB 3.0 enabled PC, to a USB 3.0 enabled phone... What would be the most constricting? Any suggestions on the micro sd?

depending on who you get your note from, u might need roms just to get a good tether.  i was able to tether on my s4 w/o a rom, but it was very unstable.  it will  be interesting to see how the modding world picks this devise apart.  also, if u are gonna be modded, u might wanna avoid those factory updates.

I would jump on the mod bandwagon, but I would hate to lose the s-pen functionality... some mock me, but the handwriting detection on such a nice large screen is amazing (on the note 2 anyway) also it is good for games that need really close precision....

I know... big red is being an @$$ regarding anything that goes into their phones, but there are so many solutions that bypass that, I think that I will be ok...
