Best (cheap) places in california to live?

I'm currently preparing for a move to california and have been searching for a place to live. Really the whole state is open to me, and right now i'm staying with some family in the northern california region so i'll be able to take day trips to scope out areas. So i thought i'd ask the shroomery for some input! what are the best places in california for a young person that are cheap? and i know cheap and california dont go together, so when i say cheap i mean cheap by cali standards. Thanks!

you can find a good deal in one of the best places if you look hard enough. keep searching
brotip# if you look for house that rent rooms it would be much cheaper and it isn't at all impossible to find one in a very good area.

Check out the Auburn area.
It's 30 miles to Sacramento and 100 miles to SF.It is also 100 miles to Reno. You have the American River Canyon for bike trails and great rivers and you have some crazy mountain areas for camping up i80 up past colfax. you can also bounce over in 49 to get to hwy 50 and hit up desolation wilderness. Or you can go north up 49 and and find all sorts of crazy shit as well as taking hwy 20 back east towards I80 and finding all sorts of lovely spots in the mountains.
The south Yuba river just north of Nevada city is the best river ever. It;s clear, it warm, and you can sometimes see naked hippies.
Honestly, I hate cities. \ I moved away from California and found a great home in S. Oregon. I miss that area. Not enough to move back, but enough to visit it.
That I80, HWY20/wy49 section of N. California is awesome.
If you want festivals, south, west, north and burning man is pretty close.

California is such a huge and diverse state that it's really impossible to make generalizations about the cost of living for the entire state. There less expensive areas that are further away from the main cities and fairly decent. There's also ghetto ass areas that are close to/in the big cities that are pretty inexpensive. Just depends what kind of situation you want.

And currently i'm looking in the chico region. I'm not a fan of major cities either, though i love to be close to a good music scene and not too far from regions that major tours would go through

Funny, I am about 10-15 miles from central point, Technacly gold hill, closer to RR. I used to live in Alta Sierra. That market would actually diliver stuff. Looking at the map... I don't really reconginze stuff, it was over a decade ago, or to ... thinking tippy way or lower circle.
I lived in Auburn alta sierra, grass vally and nevada city.
Awesome area. My wife lived up on the Ridge.
She also lived lived in a crazy spot near Georgetown, and also along the trackd of colfax
I love it there.
I just love it a bit less than Oregon/ , although the south uba is the best rive ever,

the desert is not too bad for expenses, the high desert is down right cheap but that comes with living out in the desert.

California doesn't really get cheap unless you want to live in a ghetto
I like northern california, especially by the coast around eureka or arcata. I'm not a fan of southern ca

South Lake Tahoe or most places in nor cal.
Generally it gets more expensive the closer you get to LA/OC or San Fran
