BRF cake as inoculant for WBS & Log Cake in a Cup. (PICS)
    #18937181 - 10/05/13 05:56 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I saw people asking about using crumbled BRF cakes as inoculant and I was curious as well. The chance of contam seems really high but, I decided to try it. All of my jars were in use so I used a decorative glass thing with tyvek/tin foil/coffee filter taped to the top as a lid.
The crumbled pieces recovered quickly and after a couple shakes it tore through the wbs in no time.

The cake I used was about 1/4 pint. I used a glass dipping cup for that, like for salad dressing or ketchup.

You can see a chunk of the cake in the bottom right of the jar.

Also wanted to show my log cake. I used a glass I got from Spain instead of a jar and taped a jar lid on top. The PE myc is viciously running down the brf. IDK if I'm going to fruit as a cake or crumble to WBS just yet.

Yes. I removed the lid from the BRF jar, poured the dry verm layer in a Tupperware cup and closed the lid. Wiped off as much as I could from the cake, placed it in a sandwich bag and broke it up as much as I could.
Cut a hole in top of my make shift WBS lid, poured in the crumbled cake, taped over the hole with micropore tape, and shook it up.
