Yeah its the shit! Sorry to hear though i just recently got it six months ago. Been hiking and biking for years. I live in an ideal town for it. No police station and no zoning, its like a campground in a way if it werent for the highway smack dab thru the middle of town and no lake or river. We got ponds and a stream. What you live in the city rev0? TY for the ID btw.
Sounds awesome!
I dont live in the city... I used to.
I live on the coastal mountain range of northern california.. but not as north as I would like! Im about 25 minutes from the closest populous, and 20 minutes from the ocean.... its a mix of forested corridors and large expansive properties, broken up with very expansive pasture lands.... fences are everywhere, cow ranchers suck around here.... they like to aim their shot guns at kayakers. Poo on them.

Sheesh! Farmers. Sounds like a good country environment. I heard the redwood forests are AWESOME! Ever been? Is that why you wish you were more northward?

I live on the edge of the banana belt, there are alot of redwoods around.... There is a secret old-growth giant not too far from my house.. it survived the logging around here because it was located at the loggers camp... the locals have kept it secret for a long time.. but it seems to be people have been figuring it out, because they fenced it off this year Old growth Redwood forests are my favorite... I would consider my area more of a mixed evergreen forest, mostly fir, redwood, oak, bay, hazelnut, willow, plums, etc... there are also cedars, pines, madrones, etc.. but less of them... Most the redwoods around here are second growth.... the canopy's around my property are in the process of lifting, some areas well lifted already...

Saweet on the active thing!
Sounds sweet. Sux people cant get along thats how it goes around here too but good luck finding an old growth forest of anything! The biggest tree Ive seen in my area is probably nothing by comparison to your trees. Everythings been stripped, mined and then stripped again and then mined etc. I try my best to locate these secret forests to hunt for mushrooms. I find spots out in the thicket sometimes that looked like they havent been touched, but looking on google earth. I date back as far as it will let me only, Oh. Was all forest for the majority at one time. It was covered in ICE, water back in time. Ever since the first settlers came here. Most the old trees were mined

Note that there is no such species as 'gymopilus dryophilus'. You probably mean gymnopus dryphilus, which is not what you have there, going by the wrong gill color. Not really sure what it is you have there, though.
