Says The system is going down for reboot NOW!

Thing is, its been like that for 10 minutes. Is this normal?

No, not normal.

Press ctrl-alt-f1 and check what the last couple of messages were.

Or just reboot the box and see what happens.

Then just take out the disc and manually reboot the box. Odds are it'll continue just fine.

Don't worry about it; just use it. No need to check anything. Reboot after install sometimes goes wrong like that; it never affects the installed system, I find.

google "debian linux tutorial"
or "debian linux system froze reboot now"

if you install linux you learn how to use google very proficiently

replace debian with your linux dists name

boom, everything you need, you don't even have to think

just remember freedom is most important :P

then you'll never go back to Microsoft, I've been running since 1998, then finally on all boxes in 2002

but hell, I just installed win98, just for the love (just to game a bit old games)
maybe I'm crazy

3.11 and 98 were the only good windows, since then they have just slowed down, and not as good for games etc.

I still prefer GNU/linux as my main operating system, never want to go back to Microsoft on all my pcs

btw.. win98 is harder for me to getto work than linux
sound driver doesn't work
network doesn't work (no driver available on cd for onboard net)
vga doesn't work (so no graphics, 640x480 resolution, only driver available on cd is riva128 but it's a geforce4, so no vga driver till I get it online)

getting win98 online is usually never a good idea

it doesn't recognize my usb flashdrive either... no driver for that
have to get online to get my flashdrive to work

my dad just installed win98 too on an old pc, took 5-10mins to get most of a page to load in firefox, too slow cpu, 100mhz
(but on this 2600mhz with 2GB ram I bet win98 will run fast)

... but it's fast... it boots in 3-5 seconds max... vista takes 3-5minutes
and only 350MB diskspace usage, and 30MB ram ... winxp uses 80-120MB easily iirc
so runs very fast on a new pc
seems to run quite a bit faster than windows xp too which the machine came with

downgrade, never upgrade

it looks 99% like windows xp!, but just 5-10x faster often

If firefox worked in 3.11 then I would have installed win3.11, but no fun when you can't get online
3.11 is even better than win98 iirc

Start poking around with your system  You now have a pretty much a computer you can customise and it probably would be a good idea to learn to use the terminal lots of things can be done much more quickly and easily from the terminal. Btw did you dual boot? Which window manager are you using? And did you set your own partitions or did you let the OS use the standard install?
