Yeah, in this case. A shaggy something! Even if not the one you were looking for :P The Chlorophyllum genus also contains C. molybdites though which is poisonous and green spored.

OK cool. I went for it and just took a nibble, and it tastes like mushrooms. No bitter or acrid flavor. I'm taking a spore print to be sure, and if it's green, I won't eat them, but since the older mushroom's spores are little brownish, I'd be very surprised if that was the case. I found a bunch of oysters up there too, so looks like it's wild mushrooms for dinner!

The mushroom with brownish gills is not the same species of mushroom. Looks like an Agaricus. It's also possible but not very likely that the Chlorophyllum species is actually a Lepiota. Someone else will be able to confirm either way.

Geeze, they look SO SIMILAR!
Mushroom hunting is awesome.
So pics 2 & 3 are of the brown gilled mushroom. They were growing in the compost heap. The other one (which is split open in the photo on paper) was growing deeper in the woods out of the tree.

Pic 2 looks the same as pic 4, but immature (I'm assuming it's the bottom left one in pic 1). Did you look at the gills of that one?

The one with white gills in picture 4 and cross sectioned in pic 1 is Chlorophyllum, the others I would consider Agaricus.

So is the agaricus safe to eat?

Idk, can you take more pictures of the underside of the other specimens? Do they stain any colors? It would be good to try to stain them with KOH if you have any. What do they smell like?

Don't appear to be staining any colors. I've only been doing the spore print for about an hour, but it looks to be tan/brown, same color as the gills.
They smell good.

Yes, the second pic is the immature mushroom. It's spore print was white.
The agaricus printed brown.

If I had to identify by just the pics, I would say they look like one of the Shaggy Parasols (Chlorophyllum rhacodes, Chlorophylum brunneum or Chlorophyllum olivieri) but could be Green Gilled Lepiotas (Chlorophyllum molybdites). Get a spore print and make sure that the color does NOT have a greenish tint to it.
I used to find Green Gilled Lepiota's all the time when searching for Cubes in Texas and their appearance is pretty diverse. Believe it or not, sometimes the Lepiota's would look just like Cubes from the top and I could only tell that they were not Cubes from the color of the gills after picking them.
If it can be hard to tell the Green Gilled Lepiota from Cubes at first glance, then you should be careful when identifying the Shaggy Parasols. Spore print!

Ah, missed that. Nice, with a white spore print I'm gonna say Shaggy Parasol.
