ID guesses? Psilocybe cyanescens?

Hey peeps! Hope you are all well and taking advantage of this time of year .
Im new to picking. This is my first post. Found something yesterday. I cannot yet ID it as I am still waiting on my guide (Mushrooms and Other Fungi of Great Britain and Europe by Roger Phillips) to arrive in the post. Looks like an immense book! I cannot wait for not only the book but also to identify for the first time too . Spore print has since been under way.
If the gills surface which produces spores protrudes outwards - like a downward cone - then is it adequate to just lay it on one side?
Anyway, any of you guys wanna place your bets? I'm guessing that it may be Psilocybe cyanescens but that may be wishful thinking.

Cut the gills with a knife, does it exude a milky liquid? Looks like some kind of lactarius to me, possibly l. rubidus. That would have a strong maple syrup smell to it.

Thanks for your help. I cut the mushroom and no liquid came out. I smelt it and it did not smell sweet. I may be considered an idiot for saying it smells no different to other random cheap mushrooms which I cook. Depends of how much of a connoisseur one must be to identify a mushroom. If it is similarly equivalent to wine tasters who claim that a wine tastes biscuity... or tastes of the bricks of the building where it was stored within - then I'm concerned I do not have such sharp senses to allow me to progress here.

Although... " This scent may be quite faint in fresh specimens, but typically becomes quite strong when the fruiting body is dried."

Dry it out op. The smell becomes much stronger when dried. It looks like L. rubidus to me.

No liquid came out. Means it is not a candy cap.

The gills are also wrong for candies, they run onto the stem, they don't abruptly end like that... gill/stem color is wrong too.

Gills should look like this, for Candy Caps.
Latex should look like water with a light amount of milk in it.. translucent white, but not straight white... the smell should be very maple like.. if the smell is not evident, no need to dry, just stick them in a bag or jar for an hour and then open the jar and smell right away, should be evident then.

Good to know. The mushroom however was has been picked a day and a few hours ago. It has been stored in a humid jar for around a day whilst a spore print was collecting. Still seems moist. Though, I was just checking - does that mean what you said still applies - perhaps it may have dried out?

Well that is good to know, but there was also the point about the structure of the gills, so it's still looking Clitocyboid.

Thats a good question.... I have never picked them and waited a day to milk them... they are usually dried and in a jar within 24 hours of me picking them.. lol... so maybe I will have to see, ill try and find out... as of right now, I cant answer that question.
However, the gills are a very critical feature that tells me they are not candy caps.

Ah well . I may see. No biggie.
Is leaning the cap on its side to do a spore print the way you would do it? It's a bit of an awkward shape.
