Good pics. They could be even better if you use a reflector to reflect some light back up in to the gills. Looks like all your shots are either natural light or flash, try turning the flash down a bit lower and bounce some natural light up to take its place.
Also would be better if there was microscopy.

cold and dry... so i hit the swamps...
this is an amazing time to hunt mushrooms in central florida... one problem, no rain...
as soon as some rain drops, i expect things to blow up...
anyway, 11-14-13 (various swamps inside of Paynes Prairie)
Russula fragiloides.

various Ganoderma (i don't even attempt to id them down here).

i'm thinking Mycena i have a feeling, some people may disagree...

a couple of Inocybe species.

Pleurotus pulmonarius...maybe.

They could be of the variety which just curl up and shrivel instead of deliquescing. Hopefully some even more mature specimens can be located.

Ive found a similar species a couple times, always under Juniper... although never with a translucent margin...but it's never that wet when i find them. Gills were similarly decurrent and almost spiraling.
Were yours growing near any trees?

I bet that big white Amanita is A. mutabilis. The small ones underneath the Cortinarius are probably the same. Do you still have them? See if you can smash the bulb and note whether there is any pink staining. Those are really funky Pan. paps! They look very different than what I am used to.

Do you worry about being hassled by border security? I thought bringing (fungi?), flora or fauna over border is a no no. I mean if you had 300 bags of Psilocybe and they knew about it we'd never see you again.

I know i read that last night Alan and i was thinking of like this huge warehouse full of dried mushrooms... and then there gets to be so many that we just dont have enough room on earth to store them all. That is when we find species on mars in like 3 years.

The mushrooms should be sorted in the order of the MO observation numbers so they are easy to find.
It is possible to donate older collections to university herbariums, and they save them for ever in a climate controlled area. There is a big box at the XAL herbarium labeled Alan Rockefeller.

Might be difficult to get a DEA license for that. Easier to use existing herbariums which already have permission to store psilocybin mushrooms.

Great work on the pics. FL has had a great winter for hunting due to the above average rain and really mild weather compared to states.

Bloodworm you have the best pics of wilds on here hands down. I was curious to where your finding such diverse fungi, im sure you have already said on here but I missed it if you did. I have been hunting in FL a lot of years and never seen alot of the ones you post. Amazing stuff even Mr.Rockefeller gets excited to see your posts it seems and that guy has seen more fungi then anyone I can think of. HATS OFF to your endevors.

Reminds me a lot of the Platinum OG I was working with 4yrs ago in Norcal.. Come on FL smokers of fine herbs lets get this thru in the Nov. ballot.. looks really kushie from here... as drool runs down my chin. Love being able to grow my favorite meds, herb & fungi for life SCREW OPIATES FROM GOVERMENT SANCTIONS, its there to make most people slaves to the pillmills.... Pulling out the Cheesil right now, one I crossed myself with UKcheese & Diesel. the Diesel came straight from Chemdog. I know they have this already out for the last 5yrs but I wanted to give crossbreeding a shot and others say its better than the seeds on the market. If the laws start going towards total legalization we should be able to pull off trading without problems. But until then we can all DROOL over each others fine herbs.. Also did a Goji OG x chemdog4 Its not as stable but I don't mess with feminized so I don't worry too much of hermies popping out halfway thru the grow.. Bloodworm G-Ville use to have some good local greens back in the late 70s-90s, I can't wait to grow my sativas outdoor in FL when the laws change been holding on to some sativa seeds from Jamaica's blue mountain area just for Florida's outdoors... Vote FLORIDIANS cause it the right thing to do...

No I don't mind spiders. My opinion on them is that if one bites me, I'll hate them. Until then, we live in peace.
I am of the opinion that most to all spider bites are misdiagnosed. No one ever sees the brown recluse that bites them, because it's usually a bacterial infection anyway.

I once saw a bizarre noise/performanceish show with a segment where one of the members of the band read about brown recluse spiders while there were a bunch of fuzzy tvs and heavily distorted toy instruments and stuff. Weird.

I am sorry you had to go through that. I would have set up a powerful AM transmitter so I could get a word in edgewise through the PA system.

That's how I am with ticks, all night after a hunt I'll be trippin out thinking something is crawling on me, even after I've showered and changed clothes. Last time I took my dog out I pulled over 20 of those bastards off her neck.

Chanterell hunting I always am walking through webs. My baskets or buckets are full of spiders as I gather mushrooms. They are all over my truck and then in my apt. They are my friends and I feel bad for them being taken from their homes.
Tick? Oh fuck that shit. I hates ticks. I got one on my back a couple summers ago.
Creepy.

All spiders are poisonous, most aren't nearly enough to hurt humans, the "Deadly" ones are not that deadly even without medical treatment (Not something you could say about deadly mushrooms). The chances of being bitten by a spider are very low unless you are agitating them, insects & plants have much more potential for danger.

There are a lot of things that get misdiagnosed as brown recluse bites, even in their native range where they are common they rarely bite people.
Quote:
In its native range, the brown recluse is a very common house spider. A colleague in Missouri found 5 in a child's bedroom one night, a person in Arkansas found 6 living under his box spring in his bedroom, during a cleanup at the Univ. of Arkansas, 52 were found in a science lab that was being used everyday, a colleague found 9 living under one piece of plywood in Oklahoma, a grad student and I collected 40 of them in a Missouri barn in 75 minutes, and would have collected more, but we ran out of vials to house them. One amazing story is an 8th grade teacher in Oklahoma checking up on his students avidly collecting material by some loose bricks around a flagpole on an insect collecting trip. In about 7 minutes, 8 students collected 60 brown recluses, picking them all up with their fingers and not one kid suffered a bite. An even more amazing story is that of a woman in Lenexa, Kansas who collected 2,055 brown recluse spiders in 6 months in 1850s-built home. This family of 4 has been living there 8 years now and still not one evident bite. (see Vetter and Barger 2002, Journal of Medical Entomology 39: 948-951). When you find brown recluses in an adequate environment, you do not find one, you find dozens. And yet, the people who live with these spiders rarely get bitten nor do they run around in constant fear.

Yeah. I have seen many more. That same summer on a job my co-workers dog must have walked by a nest of the buggers because we pulled around 20 from his neck as well.
That was southern Oregon though. Up here where I am at there are not many though. I have not seen any accept for the rain shadow side of the cascades.
Come on up bro!

They hide on vegetation waiting for people like you to come walking by, must of been a lot of them out if he got around 20. I always tend to find them crawling on me before they bite...

Its better when I know they are on me, but yea, I hate pulling out ticks. They're pretty cool to photograph if your zoom can get close enough, ventral shots are useful for identification.

Ball ticks. Unfortunately I can commiserate.
Haven't seen any since I moved west though. They were everywhere in PA.

I removed 10 in one day. Not 10 brushed off, 10 that had attached after diving into a cold stream in April to try and get them off me. Luckily they are pretty easily pulled out within the first few hours of attachment, but it gave me the heebie jeebies fo sho. I'm pretty sure they were hanging out in a bird's nest I found on the ground and carried around with me . But yeah ball ticks aren't fun.

That's what I like about living in a northern climate, not many bugs or mosquitoes, zero cockroaches. I've had only one tick on me in the last 15-20 years. I pick them off my dog occasionally but as long as I keep Advantage on him in the warmer months, I don't have to bother with them at all. Ticks are way worse than spider IMO, at least spiders aren't parasitic.

There are roaches in Oregon for sure. You live clean enough to not have them but the apartments I'm working on have some and a lot of other rentals I've remodeled have had infestations. They are fairly small but they are there!
The one that bugs me he most is huge buzzing flies that bite when I'm in the woods. They circle around and around me and try flying in my nose a shit. I HATE THEM! Flies and seeing Xylaria sp. are my worst nightmares!

Only two ball ticks so far. I'd probably be dead from DEET poisoning by now if I ever managed 10 ball ticks in one day. Apparently if you get them out within 24 hours, they can't transmit Lyme, but I still ended up getting tested a couple months after that experience. I've seen it get really really bad for two of my friends (severe arthritis, heart palpitations, and an all-over rash resembling ringworm), who fortunately seem to be completely cured now. It's scarily common here, but luckily treatment is cheap and pretty effective up until very late stages of the disease.
