They are an Agaricus species. Certainly won't kill anyone but there are a few species that aren't edible. Notice any yellowing? What do they smell like?

Not at all! Agaricus can be a very tasty mushroom, depending on the species. Generally they are safe to eat, some are inedible. Just make sure there is no yellowing (it helps to slice them and look at the base for evidence of this).
If you decide to give them a taste, try a small cooked portion first and see how it sits with you.

Cool. Thanks a lot for your help
I notice you are in Florida - these are in SE England - not that I'm questioning yr expertise
I'll cook a bit and see what they're like before I send them viral

MidnightCity is correct, they are Agaricus and probably tasty. If they smell like chemicals while cooking don't eat them. If they smell good while cooking, they are most likely good to go.

Haha, I am in fact in Florida and have good experience with this genus in the US. I won't be offended if you'd like more opinions!

Found some of these myself recently. Mine were yellowing but I don't think thats necessarily a sign of poison if its not too bad. Nevertheless I only had a nibble just to be on the safe side. As far as I remember the cap tasted nice but the stem was a bit woody.

Well I made them into a mushroom soup. Not the no.1 tastiest I've ever had - a bit earthy maybe - but still very tasty and I would pick and eat again
