Joe Rogan is actually a very intelligent person. He doesn't look the part and I think that is why some people don't like him. He's also very good at explaining complex things in a simplified way. That's why I like him. His new show SyFy is pretty good too.

I admit I have talked shit on him, but since I have started listening to his podcast more my opinion has changed. Some of my favorites are:
Les Stroud Adam Kokesh(Adam vs the man dude who is now behind bars) Graham Hancock Tommy Chong Immortal Technique Alex Grey Maynard James Keenan Peter Joseph( Zeitgeist Movement)
I am also not a bro or meathead type by any means and I think UFC/MMA is fuckin badass!

Ummm, no. Nearly all of the information in the short period I watched of this video (less than 3 mins) everything he mentions about DMT is completely unfounded. DMT may or may not be produced in the pineal gland, that is TBD. Joe Rogan is cool, but highly intelligent is a stretch and complimenting his ability to elate topics isn't valid because in this case he is reiterating parts of other truths, and forming his own, personal story on what he believes rather than factual evidence. Idk
TL;DR: he is one of those guys that argues he definitely strikes me as one of those "always right, never wrong guys"

He actually often says that he just regurgitates info he hears, he does not claim to be intelligent and has stated that he doesnt know shit.
And everything in the video he said was true, DMT has been found in lung, liver and brain tissue, and the pineal gland of rats has been proven to produce it . . .

He's explaining a theory that he believes in. Lots of people out there in the community agree with him, though there is little or no evidence supporting the claim. Just because you don't think he's intelligent doesn't mean his experiences aren't valid and important.

It means a lot to me that someone in his position is out there boldly and bravely talking about psychedelics in a positive light.

I like Joe Rogan a lot, in small doses. He is overly abrasive. It is pretty neat that he is a proponent of psychs, especially in his position being around diverse audiences. Although his main focus is comedy and it is a commonality for many comedians to criticize the harsh drug laws in America, his main spotlight is his podcast. The number of views he likes and gets on 2hr videos is outrageous. People are really interested in what he has to say, but more so because he has created a show with really intelligent people, that has no boundaries as far as the material they cover. The show he built up is a unique environment that has proved to be incredibly successful.
You are right, in a certain sense, it is good to have major publicity for the benefit of psychs. Seeing a stable individual who openly talks about the use of hallucinogens really opens up peoples minds. I bet there have been many bro UFC fans or even older fans that liked Rogan before they knew he did drugs like that, and probably had their opinions affected in someway throughout the process.
Good post.

Yeah very very true...I am a different person now after almost 16 years of drug usage...but not all of us were close-minded meathead jocks who loved to watch 2 roided-up meatheads beat the living shit out of each other. Not all of us where close-minded meathead jocks who would talk major shit about people who smoked Cannabis and made women literally cry by being an asshole!

Your opinion sucks. And stop saying honey.
Just because someone was a meathead, or appeared to be a douchebag in years long since passed, does not mean that is who they are forever. Nor does it mean people are just one-dimensional.
He's a cool normal guy. He doesn't pretend to have all the answers, and he admits himself a lot of his rantings come from, or are inspired by other philosophers such as Bill Hicks, Mckenna, etc. He's not the most eloquent, but he puts the ideas in a simple format that the average lay person can relate to. He keeps an open mind about things and talks honestly about what he believes, which is more than I can say for 95% of the dickwads in media. He's a good influence for all the bros.
He promotes positivity, living a healthy lifestyle, and being a good decent human being. I don't know what the fuck kind of problem you could have with that.

Seriously though? Why all the hate? Have you actually ever gave the podcast a listen? Don't be such a cock about it. Many people change for the better after psychedelics. This guy doesn't get a chance because he's more athletic than the average guy, or because he makes more money?

I think we need a person like Neil de Grasse Tyson or Bill Nye as a psychedelic spokeperson. Joe Rogan basically regurgitates McKenna, who was nothing more than a science fiction author.

QFT.
I think Joe did really well in that interview - I enjoyed it - of course it was very drug/alternative-friendly, which helped.
My opinion on Joe: I respect Joe for what he does. He gets some great guests on his show and exposes possibly unlikely listeners to interesting ideas. I think he does a pretty good job at promoting psychedelics, which is really important if we want public opinion changed. He's pretty open-minded and not bad as a rational thinker (wouldn't go so far as to call him highly intelligent though...). I think his main strengths are sharing his personal psychedelic experiences and regurgitating information in an interesting and, arguably, funny manner. He speaks straight and is not afraid to upset people - thumbs up for that.
On the other hand, I reckon he can sometimes lack focus, talk too much (and not listen enough), be immature, and bully. He also has some questionable promotions/commercial affiliations IMO.
It's very frustrating when he has a really incredible guest - top of their field - and Joe keeps going off on tangents, rehashing the same ideas and opinions which everyone has heard before, at the loss of valuable output from the guest. I basically can't watch his podcast for this reason - it's all over the place sometimes - no real focus or continuity with Joe's input. I reckon he should go easier on the edibles and be a bit more professional. It is the Joe Rogan Experience, however...
I highly recommend Joe's Rick Doblin (founder and president of MAPS) podcast - especially beyond the ~1hr mark.

rogan's heart's in the right place, and i like him, but he tends to misrepresent a number of key philosophical positions regarding psychedelics. i don't think it's intentional. i think he just doesn't get it on some important level. the way to have fun with rogan is to just take what he says with a grain of salt. he's an entertainer, not a philosopher.

Rogan is a bad ass. One of the main reasons I even considered touching psychedelics.

Man I think YOU could use a psychedelic trip to remind yourself of the love and and how important having an open mind is, and to remind yourself that every human being has the potential to be something totally amazingly awesome no matter what their past is. . .

Rogan is actually really impressing me. He is more skeptical and intelligent than ever before and if anyone hates on him its just because they do not understand themselves

I think I've seen an awakening happen to many people recently, a lot of people I know have started meditating and becoming vegan suddenly, also everybody I meet randomly lol, even old friends I hadn't talked to in many years who spent their whole life in books (just like I did once) and seemed to completely have forgotten themselves started meditating/becoming vegan/doing charity and having dalai lamas word on their walls "happiness is better shared"
dunno what's going on... but I realize it is the truth :-)

I'd take 100 Joe Rogans over some of the people I have to interact with on a daily basis. He can be a bit obnoxious at times but at least he admits to his shortcomings. And on top o that he has definitely matured a lot, listen to some of the earlier podcasts and then to a few of the more recent ones....big difference.
Shit I hate to admit it sometimes but Joe Rogan basically turned me on to psychs way back when.

and how do I know machines exist?
living as thoughts, buying for happiness, consuming all the time, careless about oneself / others, no joy in life, stress all the time, always wanting (attached to everything)
I used to be one... one with the system, but thoughts are invisible so you never know
before Transhumanism will become a reality we need to get most people to break free of their thoughts most aren't ready for that (meditation, simple lifestyle etc.)
DMT can make you break free, as can any other psychedelic (LSD/Mushrooms in high doses) etc.
meditation is the slow steady road, psychedelics is the hard fast road
transhumanism isn't only for the few, it should be for the whole world, and thoughts all the time controlling us are holding us back
"
Transhumanist philosophers argue that there not only exists a perfectionist ethical imperative for humans to strive for progress and improvement of the human condition but that it is possible and desirable for humanity to enter a transhuman phase of existence, in which humans are in control of their own evolution."

Just listened to that, he's still spreading misinformation. You don't spread theories as fact, wtf. Manna being psychedelic, pineal being 3rd eye, pineal gland's job making DMT. I have no problem with people spreading theroies, but you NEED to identify it as such. He speaks ideas as facts, and that's why I dislike him.

You motherfuckers don't even know the level people like Joe rogan and Immortal technique are on. They are true leaders of the new age and they are in on the whole shebang. Immortal Technique, i truly feel, wrote a song FOR me to listen to on my mescaline journey because he goes all out using THE WORD as THE WORD. Each word is divided down to the lowest common denominator to make you feel THE TRUTH. Here it is, it is beautiful and it made me cry. The first video is just the song, the next video is the amazing podcast i listened to while on the journey and i feel they explained everything that i went through..they SCHOOLED ME TO THE GAME as they say. They brought me under their wing of mind-reading truth.
Just remember...IN THE BEGGINING WAS THE WORD, THEN WORD BECAME FLESH

No matter what you think of the guy, his podcasts bring forth some legitimate intellectual discussions. He has a wide variety of guests talking about everything you can think of, and they use all the information and knowledge they have to discuss the topic at hand.
I think he just takes all the information he can find and bases his opinions and theories off that. I don't think he try's to say all these things are fact.

His outlook is too positive sometimes for me.

I agree, Yogabunny. Joe Rogan is good for the counterculture. It's almost as if he's an undercover hippie operative that has infiltrated the UFC, jock mentality, bonehead crowd. That crowd wouldn't hear those ideas from Wavy Gravy, but they'd listen to "one of their own".

My post wasn't directed at those that don't like what he has to say, it was directed at those who call him a meathead as their justification as to why they don't like him. I have no problem with people disagreeing with the way he spreads his message. I do, however, have a problem with the rampant "headier than thou" attitude that I see on this forum. Judging someone as a "meathead" because they work out, take martial arts, and work for UFC is straight up ignorant. It's an attitude that I've seen for years, and not just here. Every single person I've seen that has this attitude is an unathletic beta male, and they're taking out some form of inner insecurity on anyone that's not.

You responded directly to my post, and I said UFC fans are boneheads. So you were talking to me. In general, UFC fans are close minded jocks who are obsessed with fighting and being tough. That is the same mindset that started wars in Vietnam and Iraq and it's the same mindset that seeks to crush the faggot peace movement. If it makes me "holier than thou" to not agree with that mentality, then so be it. I'll bet there are groups of people and mentalities that you don't agree with also.
Let me reiterate that I have absolutely nothing against fitness, working out and being muscular. I like working out.

I don't think the word "meathead" means what you think it does. Maybe its meaning has changed over time but for me it just means moron. I'm not going to opine on whether he is a meathead or not but I did look up transhumanism. I don't think so.

That's what it means to me. I definitely think you can be big and buff and still be an intelligent peace advocate. Joe Rogan is a great example of that. And he's a great comedian on top of everything else.

I don't know that I would really describe him as awesome.
His UFC commentary is decent at times, that job fits him well, as did Fear Factor.
His standup is fucking weak, I tried to like it but it's just not funny. Or original. Or well delivered.
I've heard him pass off misinformation as truth repeatedly on his podcasts, especially about how we have "no idea" how the pyramids were made and how we couldn't recreate them today.
He is not a bro, he is the bro archetype.
He does have awesome cars though and I'm sure it'd be fun to live his life for a week, but if I had to listen to his stories about mysticism, dmt as the solution for everything, and humanity as a cancer for that entire week, I might kill myself instead.

How drunk were you? And how recent was that?
I don't mean to hate on the guy but every time I've let someone convince me to watch his standup I've been bored out of my mind, and I love standup comedy. He might be better nowadays, it's been a while since I gave him a shot and hopefully he has improved his craft a bit since then.
I definitely give him credit for calling out Carlos Mencia on his joke thievery and German heritage. Still not giving him the awesome award though.

I love how its the people who preach peace and tollerance attacking the jock stereotype. Maybe the "alpha male" type stuck his weiner in your ear in hs and you have not gotten over it. Maybe he put his weiner in your GF's butt, no matter where he put his weiner in hs to piss you off. But joe rogan probably wasn't the sane guy and if he was thats fucking hilarious.
The whole meathead/jock stereotype people seem to be bashing in here the same can be said for vegans, hippies, what have you.
The guy may not be a scientist, or even book smart, but he is very successful and does discuss some extremely interesting shit on his podcast. And his whole noahs arch bit had me dieing.

I am a UFC fan as are most of my freinds. There is not really any of us that are close-minded jocks. We just like watching people fight . . .

After he came over & over into my eyeballz then he started shoving it into my GF's butt...she screamed and pretended she didnt like it but I could totally tell that deep down inside she was just faking it, putting on a act...I knew she loved it!!! That is why she came & squirted all over the place.
Oh wait...where we supposed to be talking about jocks and meathead stereotypes? The whole 'dumb dude/going out to get laid at the club dude/bitchez love my new haircut dude'?

I have no problem with people spreading theroies, but you NEED to identify it as such. He speaks ideas as facts, and that's why I dislike him.
I challenge you to post a RECENT link of him saying those theories as fact and not identifying them as theories . . .
In the video he says they have shown live rats produce DMT in the pineal which is false, they have identified DMT inside of the pineal gland of live rats. The guy talks with an authority he doesn't have, he isn't well informed enough nor smart enough to talk about what he talks about IMO. I always thought Terrance McKenna was batshit crazy, but the guy knew what he was talking about. I've listened to a lot of what Joe Rogan says, and I think he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does. I loved him when he was on UFC btw, and I do find him funny.

Terrance Mckenna had a bad trip in the 80's and never touched mushrooms again yet preached it like it was the word and was himself scared of it, and you say he knew what he was talking about? DMT elves? Give me a break, the man was highly intelligent and had some very interesting ides but in the end didnt know any more than any of us about psychedelics and was a hypocrite

I haven't stayed current on DMT research, and that was a newer study. Still though, I can give plenty of other examples and I never claimed to be an expert. BTW the study still doesn't show that the pineal produces DMT nor the enzymes that convert N-methyltryptamine into DMT, which is why the title of the study is "DMT Found in the Pineal Gland of Live Rats" not "DMT found to be created in the pineal glad of live rats". Could be wrong about that one, but it makes sense to me. I think you are wrong about that one.

Does the pineal produce the enzyme? Does the enzyme produce DMT elsewhere other than the pineal gland? Its been a while since I've read up on DMT, as I'm not as interested in it as I used to be but I remember reading that DMT was found in the blood as was the enzyme that produced it.

LOL, ok. Terence McKenna actually used to talk a lot about how psychedelics as tools for transcendent/spiritual experiences were short cuts, and how that he'd prefer the short cut to "sweeping up the ashram for 30 years". With regard to psychedelics all it takes is a little bit of courage and down the hatch, so to speak. And a few trips can be enough for some people, Steve Jobs & Tom Robbins come to mind.

Could be wrong about that one, but it makes sense to me. I think you are wrong about that one.
You can "think" I am wrong all you want, but the evidence is there. Did you even read the article or the quote? This is directly from the article and they clearly state that DMT IS PRODUCED WITHIN THE PINEAL GLAND
Quote:
Research at the University of Wisconsin has recently demonstrated the presence of the DMT-synthesizing enzyme as well as activity of the gene responsible for the enzyme in pineal (and retina). Our new data now establish that the enzyme actively produces DMT in the pineal.
So you, who has no credentials in science, are saying that these proffessional scientists are wrong? Lol
Does the pineal produce the enzyme? Does the enzyme produce DMT elsewhere other than the pineal gland? Its been a while since I've read up on DMT, as I'm not as interested in it as I used to be but I remember reading that DMT was found in the blood as was the enzyme that produced it.
It has been found in blood, urine, lung tissue, liver tissue, but the lack of human subjects has not pinned down where it is coming from in humans, but in rats it is actively produced in the pineal gland, not sure if they found it being actively produced anywhere else in the body yet

He says DMT and said enzymes capable of converting X into DMT are found in lung tissue. I like listening to people like Steven Barker, Rick Strassman, Shulgin, and a number of other scientists talk about drugs as they know so much. I don't like hearing about drugs from someone that knows less about them then half of the online drug community. Listening to him reminds me of the days I used to read totse for shits and giggles. You can ride on his cock all you want to though, more power to you. I on the other hand think he's someone that knows a bit about what he's talking about, but not as much as he thinks he does. I wish someone that got as much attention as he does knew a lot more than what he knows.
I don't hold anything Joe Rogan has previously said against him either, and I think he has really good intentions. He probably does do more good than bad for the psychedelic community, I just want to see a scientist up there on the soap box.

I don't think so and there was a woman involved who got no credit at all. The discovery of DNA was not an overnight thing. It was a lot of hard work.

true! i guess a better way to phrase it is to say, he was reportedly using lsd during the time that he discovered the structure of dna with his team.

We know endogenous DMT is made in the lung and red blood cells of humans, and perhaps our brains.
I dont really see him as some great authority on anything, and in fact he himself does not either. In the past he has said some questionable things, as I am sure we all have, but he has learned and been educated just like is possible for any one of us. And several times I have heard him say that he is really just some dumb guy repeating what he heard. And i dont think all these people "ride is cock" as you so eloquently put it, he is just another human being no greater than the rest of us but happens to be a famous comedian/actor who has a podcast that is interesting and funny to listen to.
If you want those other more qualified people to get more attention then you should convince them to have a successful career in show business and then they will get as much attention as joe rogaine

So do you believe that Crick WAS NOT experimenting with LSD around the time he supposedly came up with the whole 'DNA structure' thing? I dont know all the details about this whole thing.
Please set me straight. It tickles me pink that you even acknowledge my existence.

From what I know someone close to him saif that he basically on his deathbed admitted to LSD helping him come up with it, but as someone stated before there he didnt do it by himself, there was a woman who deserved more credit than she got. I think she took the photos or something like that, cant remember now and dont feel like looking it up

Yep, she was a crystallographer extraordinaire who helped interpret the interference patterns in the X-ray photographs.

she deserves a little more credit than that, honestly. if it weren't for her work, it's most likely watson and crick would have continued building their little models incorrectly for some time.

I thought I gave her quite a lot quite a lot of credit and as accurate a description of what she did as you can provide in one sentence.
