Newbie question waiting for pining...
    #1893286 - 09/08/03 09:32 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Since it been almost 5 day up, The casing layer is almost compeletion cover with Mycelial growth and the top case layer start to draw away from case tray while waiting for Pinhead initiation. The Temp. 74 and Hum. 95% on the mark 4 day straight(yes with light and fan on timer). So, The Pin has not form yet. I'm afraid might end up Overlayer sooner. So,What gives? Thanks.

It can take two weeks or more to start pinning, but I see your concern about overlay. You said your fan is on a timer. How often and for how long is it running. Also, are you sure the fan is bringing in enough fresh air? How do you have it set up and how big is it? When it's on, does the humidity drop?

post pics if possible. You said the casing layer is almost completely covered and has begun shrinking?? 5 days is pretty fast, but not impossible, if you see that the mycelia (spikes) have penetrated the casing surface in adequate amounts then induce fruiting. You don't want the mycelia to colonize the top casing layer only right below it, the mycelia grows with a momentum, so they continue to colonize even after fruiting conditions have been introduced. if it looks matted and ovelayed, then scratch with a clean utensil and begin fruiting it.

How often and for how long is it running. Also, are you sure the fan is bringing in enough fresh air? How do you have it set up and how big is it?

It was a normal house fan on a low speed run 15 min for every three hr. with lid open at the edge where the fan can force fresh air at the end and push out old air. And Yes, The humidity does drop by 6% (91) after fan stop running. 30 min later the perlite automatic bring the humidity level back up to 95-96 as long I leave the lid crack open alittle to keep it staple.

Spike?? I don't see any spike like in spawn jar's on a casing layer. It looks kinda like lighting bolt spread across layer and start to shrinking away from case walls. It very soft and thin other wise looks very health. No sign of contamnants because I keep every thing under sterile which I was award it was very import.
Maybe like Poops say wait longer???
