Ok not fungus my bad bacteria can produce or aid in synthesis.

For example it's been noted in poppy pods that hydromorphone synthesis is aided by bacteria when it could not otherwise be made without in its natural setting.

Fuck I got stoned before writing this. Can anyone aid me in an explanation?

Bacteria are still living organisms, of course they can make chemical compounds. They have to in order to survive. The chemical compounds the create however are not going to replicate themselves.

Every single living organism on the planet, and for all we know the entire universe, are completely and wholly made of absolutely nothing but chemicals. A fungus, a plant, a bug, a human is 100% chemicals. A plant growing is simply a chemical reaction and nothing more, at least when viewed from a scientific perspective. When a product says 'chemical free' it just means free of synthetic additives, but technically speaking it's comprised of ONLY chemicals. An organism is merely a prolonged chemical process which typically have a known result, though of course not always, sometimes we're surprised. Throw a seed in the ground, add water and nutrients and all you're doing is initiating a chemical reaction which under standard conditions will grow the plant expected to result from the initial seed. The entire universe is just a chemical reaction that is still going on initiated by the big bang. What defines an organism or non organism is entirely subjective and upon close examination truly an arbitrary distinction that just happens to be agreed upon by humans as a collective whole. This is all from a purely scientific perspective of course, there are other positions upon which you can view it from.

Again, I understand what you're saying. That said, lsd is not going to replicate itself in the same way your kitchen table is not going to spontaneously reproduce.

If you're getting technical, chemical reactions require a catalyst, something which makes the entire process happen. Energy is required as are reactants. In an organism, enzymes are provided which facilitate chemical processes inside that organism and are also provided the necessary raw ingredients needed to proceed with that reaction because the organism consumes those nutrients from its environment. Life is much more complicated than simple chemical reactions, especially from a Buddhists point of view which you should be able to see quite easily if you are a buddhist. Lsd will not magically create more lsd if you put it in sunlight.

I'll agree with that . I never meant to imply you could take a hit of LSD or any random crystal, put it in the sun, and expect it to grow, but there are other factors involved than simply the chemical a crystal is made of, the crystalline structure also has a big effect on the crystal as a whole and I believe changes its properties. You can make a mineral supplement which under normal conditions is readily absorbed and digested by the human body for instance yet pack the molecules together in the right structure and they become much less able to be absorbed despite being the same chemical. That's along the lines of what I was trying to say, but I don't really feel like pursuing it much further as it's hard to translate into words.

Everybody feeling better now?
I had some points to make, but I stayed out of the argument and let it resolve itself. See how that works? I didn't have to point out that LSD is a non-natural product (i.e. intentionally and purposefully aided in the process of synthesis, for those with a respectably broad sense of what constitutes "natural")
I think, krypto, that you *may* be right about crystal structure having an impact on a chemical's effects in the body. in fact I do know it does in a mechanical sense, it's the chemical sense that's up in the air but usually is a big fat NO. There may be an exception but I can't think of one. NEVERMIND I found one rolling around up there. Potassium Chloride. The physical state has chemical consequences related to absorption, a pharmacokinetic process, but still chemical consequences. You are partially correct sir.
But mostly this is not metallurgy we're talking about here. To hammer both points home with one example, the physical state of iron is irrelevant as far as the stomach is concerned (unless said physical state is that of a dagger--I digress), it will just take varying amounts of time for for the body to break up it's myriad physical states before it uses it in the same old fashion way it always uses iron.
Oh, and LSD does not grow. That is a wonderful fantasy :crazy2: but unfortunately not true.
Weren't we talking about sunshine? Whatever. Happy Shrooming!

EDIT:  I see your point about purity, but I still disagree. You are not "cutting" the acid with blotter paper. As long as it says '400ug' and there is in fact that amount in it, then you can truthfully say, "there are four hundred micrograms of pure LSD on this blotter." There may be impurities, but that is totally beside the point. A simple point, I know. That's all I was getting at.

I wasn't implying that laying it is a form of cutting it, but that the method in which it laid might degrade the product, not that it was intentionally done so to boost profits or anything as is often the case with some drugs.

Props to everyone for maintaining dignity and respect throughout this thread

Interesting find though. Never noticed that in TiHKAL.

However I don't think it has any deep meaning other than LSD belonging to a category of luminescent chemicals.

You guys are right though, this shit will be awesome to think about mid-trip lol
