Psilocybe sp. (stuntzii?)
    #18932151 - 10/04/13 05:00 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hey there,

Found a sizeable amount of these today (3 oz fresh) in South-Eastern King County, WA (near Seattle, West of the Cascades). They're definitely an active Psilocybe (typical dark purple spore print, blue bruising, separable pellicle on cap), but I'm not sure what species. Leaning towards P. stuntzii, but I'd appreciate a definitive identification (especially considering the absence of an annulus). They were growing on a semi-maintained lawn next to, but not on a patch of wood chips.

Thanks,

MycoMen

Look a like Baeos or cyanofibrillosa to me but wait for more experience folks

Nice find!  Gotta love it

The coloring made think baeo at first but I didn't realize they could be that pointy.

They are over twice as potent than stuntzii.

from what I've experienced, baeocystin breaks down rather quickly so eat 'em quick, don't dry 'em. (other people who know better than me, please feel free to correct if I'm off base here.)

edit to add: not that they wouldn't work, just some of the magic would be lessened.

happy funguy.  Yes nor-baeocystin breaks down when they dry.  I would still dry them and/or make tea, because I don't like bugs.

Don't have any habitat shots, but they were growing on an old and not terribly well-maintained lawn just next to an area that had wood chips for landscaping.

Have heard it said baeos loose like 80% potency upon drying

Believe it's documented somewhere.... Mushroom John-

There's no way I'm gonna eat 90 grams of fresh baeos, so some of them are gonna be dried. Will be interesting to compare, actually - the things we go through for science.

Tea instead maybe?

I had more mellow fun time when I dried and made tea from P. baeocystis.  I tried them fresh once and had a really crazy scary trip, but glad I did it, just don't think I ever will again.  I don't think you're going to like the raw trip.  Be prepared to shit your pants, while crying all alone in the universe.

P.S. not literally shit pants.  I never shat my pants.  I came out of the womb wearing wranglers......which were honestly a little baggy, so it sorta looked like i'd pooped.

I wouldnt believe much of anything when it comes to alkaloidal concentrations without proper paperwork haha. No offense to MJ, just making sure everything is based on hard collected data
There is a lot of false data on specifics.

Are Baeos potent? Yes
Does baeocystin break down fast? yes
Are you loosing most potency when drying? Probably not "most" id say half at most.
Is it going to be different from otehr mushies? When taken fresh most surely!

Cool.  I guess I will just look in all lawns that are somewhat maintained.
