Taking apart a 360?
    #18931588 - 10/04/13 02:53 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

So I recently got the E74 Error. So I guess from what I've read this is an easy fix. You just gotta take the xbox apart and apply some heat to one of the chips or something? I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what I'm supposed to be doing.

I've taken the xbox entirely apart. X-clamps and everything, does anybody have any experience with this that can help me?

Depends if you want the thing reflowed, reballed, or just straight up ghetto under $10 fix. Either way taking the 360 apart itself is pie. Just get a tiny flathead screwdriver and a T9 I believe Torx screwdriver (like 9 points) then you just take off the gray covers on both sides with a toothpick pressing the gray clips through the air holes, 3 per side, 6 per gray thing. Then take the faceplate off, use the flathead or your finger to pry the white clamps off (like 4) then in the back, look along the seam and press all the white things in with the screwdriver. They should click when you press em. Or disregard that and do what I do. Get the front loosened up and just rip the fucker apart. Your warranty is already gone and the case won't break this way, just make a scary noise. Then you use the Torx to undo 6(or 8?) silver screws sorta in the center. The black ones too considering you'll be redoing some chips as opposed to flashing the drive but there's your answer!

Already got it taken apart. I just am not sure what's wrong with it or how to fix it. I also have no comprehension about computer chips and whatnot.

Oh damn I should have read the op to the end lol ok well I've never done these things before man. I just flashed my own drive and bought an RGH but I've never soldered or fixed an xbox before.

there is no fixing it, what ever u do it will be back very soon.  i've "fixed" a few hundred of these so u can take my opinion as expert.  reflow or reball is the only real "fix" but even that is temporary and requires expensive equipment.

I can flash/jtag/repair 360's, pm for details.

Yea figures. Oh well I bought a new one off the internet yesterday anyway. Might as well put it back together so I can give it a proper funeral and throw it off a cliff or something
