cash or card?
    #18930059 - 10/04/13 08:08 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

ive never really liked carrying cash. its easier to spend and i tend to lose all the loose change. i know some prefer cash cause of all the hidden fees and the charge to pull money and what have you.

i see both sides, but what i dont understand is how some places only do cash or only accept cards.

i just dont get it. for fuck sake, they have apps and shit that will allow you to use your phone to accept charges.

what do you prefer to carry, cash or card?

Cash whenever possible, I don't really like leaving a paper trail even for mundane purchases. Plus you never know when you might get a cool coin in your change.

my biggest problem with cash is i cant count for shit when im high or drunk. meaning i lose out on a lot of money...

im of the special group. remember those kids that would have to hold hands in school and had to walk with their backs to the wall? they got their own special recess away from all the other kids? that was me... i was a test dummy for the military as far as new pills coming out. i was actually one of the kids that got to try out all the different add/adhd meds. shit fucked me up BRO!

Depends what I am buying. For all purchases I do not mind being traced I used a card as it's more convenient.

It's all cash for me. Unless I buy online.

There are many advantages to using a card but here are the advantages to cash:

- No paper trail, but you still get receipts to keep track of your spending
- My rule is to always break a bill. That way when I run out of bills, I'm out of money
- All the change I get goes in a pot. Since we have 1# and 2$ coins here, it adds up very fast

Overall I've been saving roughly 200$ on every 1000$ I have. Once you buy into the mentality that only bill are money and that change is only meant to put in a jar, you spend a lot less.

Imagine a jar filled with 1$ and 2$ coins.

A year of savings would be like 600$

i remember seeing some shit on the news a few years back about a guy who would walk around downtown adding quarters to all the meters. he ended up getting a ticket from some douchey meter reader cop or some shit. they made a HUGE deal about it and ended up dropping the ticket. they say, if you listen closely, you can still hear him dropping quarters.

Cash transactions are rounded to the nearest 5 cents. Australia did the same thing quite a while ago.

crazy shit... studies shows there are over 1000000000000000 pennies in the world. if they are obsolete, what would come of them? fuck it, guess we could dump em in the ocean or make a WOMD out of them and bomb the fuck out of some 3rd world country.

how ironic would that be? kill them with the one thing that was destroying them in the first place.

I think the issue is that the coins and the bills are made by two different institutions that are in competition with each other in some ways. The mint probably would like to see the $1 bills discontinued, but they have no power to force that to happen.

We also round up to the nearest 5 cents if paying with cash. I think we're also the only country in the Eurozone, that doesn't have 1&2 cent coins in circulation. They're accepted everywhere though.

The thing with pennies is they cost more to make than they are worth.

Pennies used to be mostly copper, and with the increase in copper price, if you could scrap copper pennies, you could make money possibly. But it is illegal to destroy legal tender.

Why? We have one dollar and two dollar COINS. Strippers have change purses built in up front. Slide a toonie or loonie in there and watch the girl work.

Try shoving a bill in there, gets all wet and stinky, have to cram it in there too.

Coins are much better.

Yeah they switched to zinc and then steel. I think the steel ones were still pretty cheap to make, but the time when 1/100 of a dollar bought anything significant is long past. Just slows checkout lines for no benefit.

The thing with pennies is they cost more to make than they are worth.

Pennies used to be mostly copper, and with the increase in copper price, if you could scrap copper pennies, you could make money possibly. But it is illegal to destroy legal tender.

Yeah they switched to zinc and then steel. I think the steel ones were still pretty cheap to make, but the time when 1/100 of a dollar bought anything significant is long past. Just slows checkout lines for no benefit.

Our gov claimed it cost 1.6c to make one. and yeah, I dont mind not having pennies. Although I'm sure some business have capitalized from this. High traffic cash business could adjust prices to promote rounding in their favour.
