Bacterial Blotch?
    #18926668 - 10/03/13 04:41 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hi everyone!

This is my first grow and I am wondering if this is a bacterial blotch? The outside edges are a little dark. I have heard that once they are dried out, they can still be consumed.
I am currently on my first flush. So far I have harvested 2 healthy mushrooms  Thanks!

Yea it does look normal. Did you smell the jar when you originally opened it to be birthed? A lot of times bacteria is most noticeable this way. Also the cake does look a little dry. So what you could do is put a bit of wet vermiculite on top of the cake as a little pile. Or, put the cake on a small circular Tupperware lid filled with water.

Hope this helps.

P.S. The more you don't move your cake around, the better.

Jackalope9517, bacterial blotch has nothing to do from the cakes itself. It's from standing water on a mushroom. A portion of the mushroom will turn black and start to essentially rot.

OH! No wonder his post seemed a little strange haha.. I thought he meant the cake. But yea I agree the mushroom looks fine. Sometimes a couple spores drop and its a bit black on the stem. At least for me.
