I will upload more pics soon. Sorry but I'm noob. I have been hunting for cow pie one many years ago but in new to the gym sp. thanks

There are roughly 200 species worldwide
Texas active gymns = Gymnopilus aeruginosus Gymnopilus junonius Gymnopilus luteofolius Gymnopilus luteoviridis
Identifying the species of Gymnopilus, in North America anyway, cannot yet be done with scientific accuracy. Researchers (Guzmán-Dávalos et al., 2003) have discovered that the features traditionally used to sort out Gymnopilus species--spore dimensions, the absence or presence of a partial veil (and its persistence, if present)--do not successfully identify genetically distinct species within the genus. So, if your goal is not scientific accuracy but stubborn determination to put a Latin name on your mushroom collection, get out your microscope

The big question is are they good to eat? Dosage? Dry them or not? What kind of time span for brusing? Stems are red seem to bruise a darker red/bluish brownish

The larger ones have dirty stem. They appear moldy on photo but it's just sandy dirt. Are they still not any good?

You should dry some well and save them. The user bloodworm is working on the genus and would doubtless want a few samples from your collection.

I did some research and these take 6-12 hours to bruise after picking. I picked them about 4 hours ago and just checked them. They are starting to bruise blue and green spots on the caps. it is very noticeable because of the red, orange, yellow color of the caps.
I am drying them right now.
My concern is potency because I am not at all familiar with the gym sp. anyone have any experience with them at all?

Any mushroom that bruises any color can bruise that color before, during or immediately after picking. Sometimes a mushroom will bruise slowly, sometimes the same species will bruise right away. If you really want to see some bruising, stick them in the fridge overnight.

does bruising reflect potency? i.e., quickness or so on.
should I refrigerate or dry them? can I refrigerate, then dry them?
in the past with cube I didn't dry at all. I would freeze them a few hours after picking. then consume in a few days later.

you can refrigerate then dry them. They are more potent if you consume them fresh, but the amount of fresh material necessary to experience intoxication is ridiculous.
Wether you consume them or not you should set some dried material aside for study.

They vary greatly in potency in my experience, and not all Gyms are active. They're intensely bitter and the average breakdown for dosage in dry weight goes like this: Dosage:
Lvl.1 1.5g Lvl.2 2.8g Lvl.3 4.4g Lvl.4 7.2g Lvl.5 10.0g
when they're fresh, multiply that weight x 10, so a heroic dose would = ~100 gms.
I wouldn't eat the older ones.
I dry mine, grind em up, weight them out in 2gm increments and put em in "00" size capsules if I'm not using microdoses as a mood elevator through the winter months.
more can be found under the Gymnopilus section here: http://www.shroomery.org/12460/Psilocybin-Species

what type of wood-chips were they growing in??
the green/blue pileus coloration points toward Gymnopilus aeruginosus.
if you dried any, i would love to take a look at them...

not really sure. it was mulch/woodchips. from what I have researched I was thinking gymnopilus dilepis/purpuratus but I don't think they have ever ben found in Houston texas area. I have had them in air tight container in the fridge. I am going to get spores and try to cultivate. I didn't pick all of them where I found them so there should be more.

That dosage chart, is a bit funky. I took 9 grams of them and felt just a buzz.
