Back problems.
    #18925975 - 10/03/13 01:47 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I will try and make this thread straight and to the point as best I can. I am trying to see if anyone might be able to give me some ideas about what might be wrong with my back.

To sum up what happened, I had been taking benzos and etizolam for about a month regularly and I went into a treatment program. They didn't taper me. 5 days later I was trying to sleep and the next thing I know I am on the floor looking up at my mattress confused (I felt the same disorientation in past seizures.) I tried to get up on my feet but I couldn't, I tried pulling myself on my bed and fell. I did eventually manage to get in bed but no one did any checks until about 6-7 hours later. They picked me up and put me in a wheelchair because I couldn't put any weight on my feet because of my back. My muscles would tense up and start spasaming really bad.

I got wheeled down to the emergency room and they helped get me on the bed. The doctor asked if I could squeeze his finger and it was very difficult. They gave me a muscle relaxer and waited a bit and I was eventually able to walk back to where I was at however it was very painful and difficult. I took the muscle relaxers for about 2 weeks until they stopped them. From that point on it just kept getting worse and worse. I saw two different pa's two times each and neither of them had a scan done.

Anyhow to sum up what is going on the past week 1/2 or so. Now it doesn't feel like my muscles as much as it feels like I am being stabbed against the middle of my back and if I move to either side it feels like I am being stabbed on that side. It feels relatively fine in the morning but as the day progresses it gets worse and worse until no matter what I do I am in pain.

I know this is a long post but I know absolutely nothing about backs and I am fighting as hard as I can to get it taken care of but its not working. Any idea of what might be wrong might help me out.

Thanks!

Sounds like nerve pain. It's extremely hard to tell, but if your just looking for some theories. It could be possible that while having a grand mal or tonic-clonic seizure, the muscles in and around your back could have contracted so hard during the clonic phase that it herniated a disc causing pressure on a nerve. Also possible is an acute injury of the same nature resulting from your abrupt descent to the floor. Like I said, it's hard to say exactly but those are possibilities that come to mind.... Does the pain radiate at all down your ass or into you legs/hips?

No it isn't went anywhere other then my back. I have however had pain in my arm and it seems to get worse whenever I try and use it forcefully. IE. Carrying something heavy, pushing or pulling hard, extending it and trying to reach far, as well as putting it over my head hurts sometimes.

For the most part it is just my back. It keeps switching up though. For the past week and a half it has felt like it was either like I said on my spine or close to it and whenever I leaned to whatever side it would hurt there as well. However now it feels like my muscles are EXTREMELY tight. I don't know why they are doing this now though, I just got more muscle relaxers and that is when they seems to start getting really tight.

Yeah I know it is hard to tell I was just wondering if anyone could explain a few theories so I might have an idea on what is going on. I am going to try to get a scan done or something even though I know that it isn't a definitive thing that it will show anything.

It starts hurting bad laying down then goes away. When I wake up in the morning it is a lot less irritating but it gradually gets worse and worse as the day progresses.

It isn't horrible but but is really annoying and keeps me from being able to do everything I want and makes doing a lot of things difficult. I also don't like the fact that it keeps getting worse and nobody will listen to me at the VA.

Could be a bulging disk ? Id ask to get a CT scan of your back to see if any of your disk's have been injured.

Thanks for the input. I will start giving them hell until they get me in for a scan.
