Not that I mean go in and reap havoc... no no no!
But, sometimes its nice to not have to worry about being stalked and watched. And its nice to not get popped for being one mushroom over limit

I'm surprised you even see anyone to be honest, let alone be watched at any point! American national parks are huge.

You've never been to Yosemite obviously, practically shoulder to shoulder.

No, nor any others. But i still find it very strange. You don't even see many people in the ones here and they are tiny by comparison.

You would be surprised. Personally, I have never been caught hunting, even prohibited areas. I have likely been watched at some point. But I have seen them watching others.... they hide on hillsides and overlooks, they know where and when to watch... they also check cars along the outlets sometimes... in California its relatively well regulated... not nearly as much as the abalone pickers, but its still stiff when/if you get slapped with a violation. However, if its just a regular cop, its pretty easy to talk your way out of anything when it comes to mushroom hunting... I have been stopped for looking suspicious crawling around bushes at night in busy public areas... my hat full of mushrooms, I told him the truth, that I was picking mushrooms.. when he asked what for, I told him that I was collecting them for making my own Colored Pigments for dyes, paints, etc... at that point it was all flying right over his head and he abruptly shut me up, yeah yeah, and left, disinterested.. its hilarious, every time... they just have no clue here.

There are a lot of complicated regulations regarding any kind of foraging in the US.. it varies from State to State, Park to Park... some places everything in the parks is considered protected, your not even supposed to pick a flower and stick it in your hat, technically... how much they actually enforce these regulations also varies.. they mostly focus on poachers in regards to animal hunting, fishing, etc... but in some areas that are known for weekend-mushroom hunter madness, they really crack down on it... and honestly, I completely understand why the regulations exist.. because in general: people can never just take what they need, people have no respect, people cant be trusted, people just don't understand, they don't get it... and because of that common trait, we have regulations to help protect what might be otherwise destroyed... if anything, it just helps to regulate the damage, but it does not fix or prevent damage from occurring anyways.
Its the US, everything here is extra complicated, by design. lol

They're not limited to burn sites, and chances are you will only find them at maybe 5% of burn sites... random percentage I pulled out of my ass. magic statistics~
It would be useful to learn more about the content of the burns... what kind of wood burned and where? Keeping in mind the habitats.
Should Narrow it down a little..
Then there is the fact that you gotta get there first cause there are gonna be tons of people flocking there this spring for that same exact reason.

The House just passed (can you believe it? the House passed something that has a chance of getting through the Senate?) a resolution (H.J.Res. 70) yesterday for continued funding for National Parks, among other things. now it just has to be taken up and approved by the Senate. Bad news for mushroom raiders, good news for the US government.
summary of the resolution by the library of Congress here: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/113/hjres70#summary/libraryofcongress
