Identification Request

I apologize in advance for the abysmal picture quality. It was the best I had to work with.

Habitat: Found in Northern Illinois in a forest next to a path. Growing in soil that was covered in dead leaves and debris. 30 specimens were found growing in a 3x3 foot area. None of the specimens were attached at the stem or growing too close to one another.
Gills: Brown to dark brown, adnexed, gills had medium spacing.
Stem: The largest specimen had a stem length of 60mm, 2mm in diameter, tan to white in coloration, smooth in texture with no visible fibers running up and down, hollow, brittle. The base of the stem had branching white mycelium spanning out.
Cap: 25mm in diameter. The coloration was tan in the center and a dark brown ring surrounding it. The texture was smooth. The younger specimens were more round while others tended to almost flatten out.
Spore print color: Dark black.
Bruising: No bruising was noticed anywhere on the specimens.
Other information: There was no universal or partial veil present on any of the specimens. Scent was of mushrooms and a small taste and spit test revealed a mushroom flavor.
My best amateur guess is that it is of the Psathyrella genus. What do you think?

-------------------- Pain is temporary. It may last for a minute or an hour or a day or even a year but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it will last forever.

Your specimen is absolutely a Psathyrella species! I wouldn't even bother to venture a guess on a species that looks like many others from the same genus. Good job on your ID, welcome to the Shroomery!
