But, I think the most likely possibility is that he was a true believer and was determined to go down with the ship. That's the kind of guy he was. A real hero. Man, what a loss.
...he was about to sell SR...that is how he got taken down from the murmurs I hear ( or that competition from the sites still active made this possible).

What I dont get is, they are saying there were two DPRs... how the fuck did this Ross guy get taken down when he was researching how to create SR in the first place? Wouldn't all the research be done by the original DPR?

I don't really see how anyone is surprised by this happening. It's a shame, and I support its use (Though I never attempted due to technological skepticism), but it's out there. A network like this needs to be accessible to only the select few who are going to use it correctly and not get other people in trouble, but this could not be stopped. The Silk Road was mentioned on news stations, talked about all over the Internet and was generally recognized by the mainstream as one of those things you never believe until you see it. And the biggest attention was probably from Forbes, yes Forbes the magazine that annually prints the richest people in the world on a list. They profiled TDPR and actually tested SR, Atlantis, and Blackmarket Reloaded to see which had the most truthful/economic reputation. Like many other things it was fun while it lasted. He made a few minor errors, and when you have that kind of heat on you and have kept governments looking stupid and drugs flowing through UPS for a few years, you can't afford even the slightest mistake.

Oh ohh the water... Oh the water... I dont care if it rains all day."

another noob who didn't read the 40 page indictment.
the site itself was iron-clad.
It doens't matter if Forbes, Oprah, whatever were talking about it. theres nothing they could do.
Dread Pirate Roberts fucked up, leading to his own demise. it's as simple as that.
the original idea was flawless

Something is fishy with the Silk Road "Seizure" Posted on 02 October 2013
Ever since the first media reports that the silk road (a tor based illicit goods marketplace) was seized something didn’t add up. First where the images posted, then there have been absolutely zero official statements from DHS, the FBI or ICE or any other agency that is typically involved in these cases. And with the “government shutdown” there is no one in the media office to contact. And the operators answering the phones after multiple calls say they are not aware of any seizures or statements regarding any seizures.
Then I started looking into the images being posted.
This is the official seized domain or server image from the DHS

This is the image being spread through the media.

Now if this comes out and it’s real I will retract my statement, but this smells of market manipulation. Probably by the same people that have been running DDOS attacks against bitcoin operations. Some are saying this might be an elaborate market manipulation hoax.

If it wasn't for this 40 page complaint I would agree with that point.
However, that would have required a LOT of work for someone to just increase traffic to the site. Sadly, I think this is some real deal shit. Whether or not they have the real DPR is another question. And the biggest question, is will he flip. . .

This isn't about increasing traffic, we're talking market manipulation here. Wait for the price to drop (or in this case, make it drop), buy a shitload of BTC, and sell it at a higher price when it goes up again (that is, when SR is back online and everyone realizes it was just a hoax).

If this turns out to be a hoax it would be an epic troll, but I still think those court documents are too elaborate for a ploy. All we can do now is wait and see how this develops.

Ulbricht first came to the attention of federal agents in 2011 when they figured out he was "altoid," someone who they say was marketing Silk Road on other drug-related websites the FBI was watching. From an ap article. Means we are being watched huh?

Seems unlikely with the court thing. But maybe sr wasn't seized. Maybe that's not dpr. Maybe he trusted someone with a site replica and it will be up again under new ownership!
