But they weren't necessarily expired at the time. I paid for my plates a couple weeks earlier..Got them sometime within the past 10 days..Didn't put them on though yet
Went to the city and an officer cited me while I was parked somewhere and left me a surprise ticket...
If I show proof I paid for my plates prior to the ticket will they throw the fine away?

You might get it changed to improper display of plates. I got that when the paper dealer plate fell off my window.

I think it'll come down to your local court. I've had plenty of friends here get cited for expired tags, expired inspection, etc., and it was always waived if they provided proof they got it squared away.

My experience is that if you go and explain to the local courts, they will take pity on you and reduce or withdraw the charge.
Just explain that you were quite unwise and naive, and were unaware of making that intelligent connection in actually putting the new license sticker,and/or plate on your car.
If they feel you're sincere, and will not do it again, they will have pity.

Just take a copy of your current registration to the courthouse and have them make a copy. This is the most minor shit they ever have to deal with. They may end up sending you a bill, but it will be nothing.
