Does Rye Perform better than BRF Cakes??

Alright guys, well I checked my rye bags that I inoculated about a week ago, lots of them have green.. *sigh* this is the second time i've tried to colonize rye and yet again another failure.
I have never failed with BRF cakes though, so I am going to try to use BRF cakes for all of my bulk grows from now on.
I was wondering if instead of rye berries, I used broken up BRF cakes to colonize my coir mix, will the results drastically change? Or is there no different in what you use as spawn? I'm hoping that I can get mono bucket flushes just as good with BRF as it would have been if I used rye.

How long are you sterilising for? I usually do 2 x 6 pound bags of wheat berries at a time, for 90 minutes (after the air has been expelled and the rocker starts) and never have an issue, and I dont even use a flowhood or still air box for this part of the process.

BRF cakes can be used as spawn. If your rye contaminated after a week, check your sterile procedure. If you're using syringes obtained elsewhere, someone else could have screwed up your grow. RR

Cheese grater works really well for shredding cakes if you want to go that way.

I bought the bags online, and I made the syrings myself.. I think that my room might have a Trich contamination because the last batch of rye (jars) contaminated as well, I opened one of the jars in my room to smell it.. and later on a realized that they had green mold in them... I think maybe the trich stuck around and got into the rye bags in between me innouclating them and then taping the holes closed... or maybe its because i didn't wipe down the inoculation spot with rubbing alcohol before injecting??
Anyways.. I am probably going to use PF tek cakes from now on, I've never had a contam with those.

Yeah I think it was my sterile procedure, there were a few area where I could've went wrong.. BRF cakes are so much more simple so I think I would rather use those.

You don't know if those jars got contaminated before or after you opened them.
It's very unlikely your syringes were 100% contam free. That's just the nature of the beast, not a reflection on you.
Struggling with bags is not uncommon. I suck at bags and have gone back to jars.
Trichoderma is already everywhere, that's why technique is so important.
Just because it's green does not mean it's trich.
If you want to move away from PF Tek and syringes, which I recommend, then you should get in to agar. It's not hard. You can isolate your culture away from contams and completely skip the whole syringe making process.
