Thanks Memes! Great interview! You remind me so much of myself, except with a sunnier outlook on life. Your beliefs on life are very much like mine. Neither of us has lived very deep in the counterculture as far as seeing/dealing a lot of drugs, going to Dead shows, etc. Both of us tried marijuana and psychedelics relatively late compared to most people on this site. We've both been very lucky to have avoided much coke or opiate use. Neither of us have tried DMT, etc. Just lots of things you said, I tend to agree with or can relate to. May I ask just a few more questions?
Q: I'm surprised though that you think it will take 25 years for marijuana to be legal. After all the change that has happened in just this past year, don't you think the snowball effect is now in play? I mean, a year ago, you'd never think we would have made it this far. And that's just one year. I feel that at least two more states will legalize by 2014, which will really get the ball rolling fast. I feel that once 4 or 5 states legalize and everyone sees the benefits in that, the snowball will grow so big that the feds won't even be able to stop it. I'm thinking 10 years max for all states to legalize and/or for it to be legal federally. What do you think of my prediction?
A:
Q: What's your favorite Pink Floyd song?
A:
Q: What's your favorite Jimi Hendrix song?
A:
Q: What's your favorite Jefferson Airplane song?
A:
Q: What's your favorite Cream song?

I'm thinking 10 years max for all states to legalize and/or for it to be legal federally. What do you think of my prediction?
A: If you look at the progress we've made over the last 18 months, your extrapolation holds more validity. Sadly, that's a pretty small sample size of "time", and the four decades before that showed zero progress. Are we moving towards full legalization? Absolutely! Will it snowball to the same extent that it has been over the last two years? Definitely not.
Why? Well, it's a matter of America's piecemeal way of aggregating itself. The Federal government has already said "do what you want regarding marijuana, States". So we'll be left in a situation where states get to pick for themselves - that's good for us. It means we can move ourselves to states where the marijuana legislation meshes with our viewpoints. The bad part? states where there is very little support will maintain that stance.
Sure, lots of states have passed bills recently legalizing MJ or MMJ. Which states? The ones that were already on the brink of being pro-MJ. Which ones are about to topple over? The ones that were only slightly behind in their progressive stances. It's not like these 10 states are now going to call up their neighbors and be like "hey guy! marijuana is allllllll right with me! join the party!"
So, I see a continued trend towards legalization -- but I see some states (and more than you'd think) holding out for a longer period of time. And as long as their is a clear divide in the country where more than a handful of states are continually rejecting pro-legalization legislation, I doubt the federal government will move. So, we're left in a place where we have to hope for two situations to come to fruition:
(a) Stubborn states get jealous of their pro-legalization counterpart's MJ/MMJ tax revenues, as federal funding towards states weans due to our increasingly insolvent federal fiscal situation... (b) The Federal government jumps the gun and says "soooorrrrrryyyyy" to those states who don't want MMJ/MJ and initiates their own change in legislation.
I can see all this taking a while, which is why i picked such a skewed end-date of "25 years" into the future. In 25 years, I am 100% confident, it'll be an alcohol-like regulatory environment. 15 years? 70%. 10 years? 33%. 5 years? 1%
Q: What's your favorite Pink Floyd song?
A: God, what a tough question. I moved into the 60s/70s rock sphere back when I was taking guitar lessons in middle/high school. I was a big zeppelin fan, but eventually my focus zoomed in on Floyd. Probably when i started smoking (durrr). This was a truly tough one to answer. I probably couldn't do it for the Dead (to whom I transitioned after my floyd days were over).
My answer: Summer '68. Melodic piano intro, the chorus drop, the trumpets. the lyrics, the phrasings, the harmonies, the glory. I love it. There's tons of great great floyd. -Echoes -SOYCD
Q: What's your favorite Jimi Hendrix song?
A: Wind Cries Mary. I grew up knowing all the big jimi songs, knowing their lyrics, the nuances of their solos, but was never at a level of maturity where i had any interest in seeking out and understanding the picture behind the brushstrokes.
I'm a big fan of this song and what I interpret it's message to be. The passing nature of life, the fleeting memory of time, the need to love today.
Q: What's your favorite Jefferson Airplane song?
A: My exposure to JA was tertiary until just a few years ago, and even then it was spotty at best. That being said, I've always known and enjoyed "somebody to love" - so that'll be my pick. It's not a particularly stupendous answer, but it's all I got.
Q: What's your favorite Cream song?
A: Crossroads. I got into it at a time in my life where I was facing two decisions that I couldn't mull over. It's kind of a generic answer as well, but stereotypes exist for a reason. Songs are popular for a reason. Country music is so goddamn big because all those songs are about the same everyday shit that southerners everywhere experience. The heartaches, joys, etc. Welp, that's this song - for me.

Your stance on the future of marijuana legalization definitely sounds legit. I definitely see where you're coming from with that. I'm a bit more optimistic still though. I think (a) will happen. Money talks and legal marijuana is going to generate a lot of it for states that legalize. I'm hoping that hemp might play a big part in it as well. I think hemp and marijuana will be a one-two revenue punch that will force even the stupidest states to move into the 21st century.
Nice song picks. I was really surprised by your Floyd pick. "Summer 68'"? Haha, that's funny. Supposedly that's the only song Floyd never performed live off that album. And they even performed "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast"! lol wtf!

Hemp will replace something, and that "something" it replaces will have a strong vested interest in the continued demonization of our beloved MJ.
And I love Summer '68. Like I said, there's tons of great great Floyd. I could go on forever with the things I love about Floyd. That song checks all the boxes for me.

That is true. Hemp can be used for just about everything, and it's better than what we're currently using for all of those things. So the companies who make those things and own our politicians aren't going to go down without a fight.

A big big big big big big fight. Solution? Get big money behind the hemp movement. Recruit businesses that will benefit greatly from switching to hemp and have them bankroll the pro-hemp campaign.
