Cobweb or Mycelium??? BRF Cakes PICS
    #18919033 - 10/01/13 11:37 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

These cakes have consolidated for a week and have been in the SGFC for a week (when the pictures were taken) . They haven't changed much, seem to have gotten a little whiter if anything. They are fanned ~6x / misted 3-4x a day. Some of the mycelium looks awfully cottony/fuzzy. They smell like mushrooms still. No off colors present. No pins yet (Been 9 days so far in the SGFC, 94-99% humidity, 68-72 deg f)

Do any of these look contaminated?

I'm new to this, but the UN has a mushroom growing pdf out there that was posted somewhere in these forums, and says that mildew can appear in a cottony looking manner - from the pdf...

(3) Mildew caused by Cladobotrym sp. This disease is characterized by a cotton wool type of growth of the pathogen on the mushroom fruiting bodies and spreads over the casing layer to neighbouring mushrooms. The greyish-white mycelium of the pathogen can envelop the mushroom fruiting body completely. Infected mushrooms die with a soft wet rot. CONTROL:
Disinfection of the casing material and strict hygiene can control the disease.

Also, from the tek at http://www.mushroomvideos.com/BRF-Pf-Tek it is stated that linear/cottony mycelium is produced by "oyster mycelium".

I'll defer to the more experienced growers here, as I am only in the middle of my first failed grow. I'm just putting out possibilities.

There's no fruiting bodies yet. This is Golden Teacher P. Cubensis mycelium.

https://files.shroomery.org/files/13-007/077099557-P-cubensis-cobweb-infection.jpg This is web bro! And it turns into this https://files.shroomery.org/files/12-41/019732050-947101796-947732657-Cobweb3DLater.jpg In this picture we see the myc (top left center) over run by the cotton web mold as you can also see the myc is fury like on your cakes but the fury myc is more white fluffy and thick i believe the correct term is "Risomorphic".

Thats myc all day man.  I hear its best to fan every time after you mist.  Let those cakes dry out a little each time then mist them and fan again.  The evaporation will trigger pinning.

Good luck!!

Yeah, I've been alternating between misting/fanning and just fanning. Usually every couple hours. I added some verm on the tops of all of them, and gave it a good soaking. Hopefully that helps out. I guess the name of the game is patience. They will come!!!

Glad to hear it's not cobweb. They didn't really want to colonize all the way. Seemed a little too wet on the bottoms in the jar. That and my coffee grinder died on me and I used some not so powdery BRF on a couple of them. Everything seems ok though.

:headbang: YUP! Some people say not to put an actual fan inside the grow room but i do and well..... SPOILER (CRAPY PIC SORRY GUYS)IT MAY LOOK LIKE TO SOME THAT PINNING IS ONLY OCCORING AT THE BOTTOM But i assure you guys it's spread all down the side of this pint cake!!!The fan is only inside the room on low and it is not facing the SGFC at all so only drafts are received inside the FC!!

That is only for properly built SGFCs and running a fan will just lower the chambers humidity, not stop the fruiting process.

If there is a fan running in the same room as a properly built SGFC, chances are the chamber is not functioning correctly, and not giving you the maximum humidity possible, that is all.

Cubes will most likely still fruit with the RH being around 60-80%....but perform even better if given proper conditions.

Dizzy Wizzy, those cakes look fine. Sometimes they take longer to initiate pinning, but I have seen that be totally beneficial to the quality of the fruit.  Had some LK's that took 12 days before they started pinning, biggest flushes I had came off those cakes in the end.

  Good Luck
