Tall but not wide tubs?

Hi all, I have a tub thats like this one: here. Would it work? It's not really wide, but has a lot of depth. Would i be able to use damion's elementary coir tek and just cut the amount in half?
Thanks all

Search for Doc_T's mini mono hybrid tubs.
Those are the exact tubs he uses for that tek. They work well.

Thanks a bunch!
I think I'll go with that tek, combined with the pasteurization that damion uses.

You'll be able to use a standard monotub much easier than doc_t's old dog.
Those require daily maintenance while a mono is set and forget.
Here are my write ups, most are about monotubs and bulk substrate.

Why would you recommend that for a new cultivator though?
I had a lot of trouble back when I tried it, and I had my feet wet with a few monos already.
They dry out way too fast IMO. And when they didn't dry out, they just didn't perform as well as the monotubs. Better to set n forget

I just don't think I have enough spawn for your tek frank I have 2 quarts and 3 half/pints of spawn so i feel like I'd only end up with like an inch of substrate if i used one of the big monotubs.
Hmm what to do what to do..
Also why did Doc_T put little holes in his hybrid rather than 4 big holes like a regular tub? hrm..

You can use a smaller hole size but a standard monotub layout. The monotub is not any particular size
Just use 1" holes or even 3/4" holes, two on each long side, 4" high. One on each short side, by the handle.
Then you can stuff them appropriately and get them dialed in

Alrighty.. I'm just worried I'll have only like an inch substrate and it will take forever for the mycelium to colonize and then it'll lose its energy and momentum to fruit nicely! Though i guess that's what a bit of gypsum is for hmmm..

You'll have at least 3" of substrate when you spawn to half a brick of coir and a quart of verm, I betcha
What are the tub's dimensions? I have many small monotubs, they work great with half of the coir recipe.

Do you mean the dimensions of this one? Or of a bigger alternative?
Also are you saying that i can actually use this tall one (linked above) and just put the four holes in like a regular monotub instead of doing what Doc_T did?
I must be confusing myself.. sorry lol. I'm too indecisive and my brain is in shambles cause it doesn't know whats the best course of action.

Yeah, that image doesn't tell me anything. Link the actual product page
Yes, you can drill your smaller tub with standard monotub holes and it performs great. I have a few like that myself.

Just because its what he already has, and it was what he asked about.
I've used the tubs before with success. For me they were "set and forget".

Makes sense, my experience was quite different
I had to mist at least twice a day and the edges of the substrate were still suffering from low RH from the start.
My region has pretty dry winters though, and it was winter when I experimented with the MSG. I'd imagine having a humidifier running in the room would help quite a bit.

Welp guys, I put it all in the tub and am currently waiting for it to colonize.
I can't really decide on holes and what not... and i even found a thread where leaving the lid open a little bit worked. If i feel lazy im doing that, but i have a little while to make my decision.. hmm.. so many options! O: !
And yea I'm just gonna put wax paper on the substrate then do holes if i decide to do um.
Also, turns out the thing in this thread was just empty space in my grains. When i was opening it up i found/smelled no bacteria and it was just a bit of a hole but plenty of healthy mycelium around it.
Things are looking up!

EDIT: Also Frank you have posted in several of my threads and I thank you for your help and contribution Thank you to all others as well (except for notahacker, he was trying to be funny and mocked me and my poor picture taking skills :C )
