Really offended by this antivirus company

ESET, makers of NOD32 and Smart Security. I went to renew my subscription to NOD32. I filled out the order form and upon submitting it I was presented with an absurd message about how my order couldn't be completed because of a trade restriction in my country (the United States). Searching the site for the relevant keywords using a site: operator gave me only a single result that was just a rehashing of the message.
Eventually I determined that there was in fact something wrong with my submission. If you're not using the email address you used to buy your original subscription, you have to email them. Apparently your email address is an important identifying factor They list 5 identifying pieces of information and they ask you to supply them with as many as possible. So I sent them like 4 of the 5 and it's been like 3 days now and I still haven't received a response. After I submitted the form, it said that they would get back to me within 1 day.

Why are you paying for antivirus? There are equally good free services out there.

I've looked into that and have read that people prefer the paid versions.

NOD32 can be had for free... just saying.. if you are so offended by them
But some of the free AVs are just as/almost as good. AVG and Avast are both free and score pretty high.

Thinking about switching to Kaspersky after reading this post.
-- please install Kaspersky internet security 2011 without any delay and all such problems will be solved. and you can use your computer, download any risky warez without any fear or worry! its like going to brothel wearing a condom of titanium. Otherwise you'll be reinstalling windows every second month and logging in "safe mode" every second week. apart from this, it comes with a parental control where you can prevent accounts (and smartasses) from installing softwares, downloading exe files, visiting facebook etc. Very user-friendly.
download the trial from here
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/K...rity.shtml
download the key from here to make that trial work for long time http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5917303/...y-%5BHB%5D
download the key activator from here http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5914009/...ag-n-Drop)
Now there are plenty of antiviruses out there both free and paid norton, avast and what not, but this is my personal expirance, i've been recklessly using internet for downloading all sorta porn and warez from all sorta malware infected sites since last 3 years and not a single time i had to reinstall my OS or do a 'system restore'.
i've used all the programs you mentioned ESET: good but nod32 doesn't offer much online / firewall protection to the level of Kaspersky norton : very bloated , it makes ur computer very slow and its updates are very big in size and symntecupdateservice is a bloated background program, so your internet become slow. free-AVG: doesn't have firewall/online protection --

I use Kaspersky and am very happy with it. I also pay for it. The price is reasonable.
When I have a friend/family/co-worker who needs protection I suggest Avast.
I've seen no problems with either.

I agree. I would pay for it. I didn't intend to follow the guidelines given by the person I quoted.
Good thing is I've never had it installed before on my current computer, so I can start out with a trial.

Kaspersky is legit. If you are going to pay for an AV, the only ones I would really recommend are NOD32, Kaspersky, and Bit Defender.

3200k on my system. Much less than a lot of other stuff.
Perhaps older versions are what you're thinking of.

Man why would you pay anything for an A.V. AVG is free and they get updates just as fast as Norton or Kapersky. You can set it to update every night while you are sleeping and you will have the same protection as paid A.V. . I have never used any of the other freeware so I can't say how good they are but why pay for something they are willing to give you for free. And as far as firewalls there are plenty of free ones out there as well.

I use ESET because it is well regarded, but lately hasn't as good detection rates as some other competitors (I switched over to ESET when Norton was nothing but bloatware and a bit of security so this has been some years as Norton has gotten a little better).
Da2ra, http://ulisessoft.info will solve your ESET account issues. It's been working flawlessly for I dunno how long. I even have a boxed copy of SmartSecurity I've never activated because NodLogin works so well.
Virus Total is a great site and has a super awesome utility, VirustTotal Uploader.

I use UFW for iptables in linux or zonealarm free av + fw for winders.
I would like to learn to configure iptables manually though.

Antiviruses do very little against the knowledgeable hackers out there. But they will protect you from the not so knowledgeable ones. I highly suggest using an Antivirus software, combined with altering built in firewall settings.

I remeber that when I went to purchase both NOD32 and Kaspersky a while ago, both companies set 2 registration keys as the default. In other words, buying the program twice. One company even changed it back to 2 on the order confirmation screen after I had changed it to 1. This makes me very skeptical about these companies. Makes them seem like a bunch of scam artists. Another thing that makes me skeptical is that they ask you for your full name and email in order to download the trial.

the are actually real av suites. when they upped your quantity to 2, did they double the price?

well if i were them i would tell you that they didn't do it, you probably have a virus that caused the error. did you try contacting them about this, otherwise you are just blowing smoke in the wrong direction.

1. they are both super legit companies. 2. don't run 2 antivirus programs at the same time. 3. you can put a fake name if you are paranoid, it doesn't matter. 4. did you contact them about this error and get a refund? 5. as mentioned, there are many completely free AVs. I recommend Avast. NOD32 and Kaspersky though are two of the best ones. ESET has always been on top of their game. But you should get a refund for the multiple keys if you didn't request them or use them.
