Sorry no pics. I was driving home from work and a saw this massive gym cluster. Probably the biggest I've ever seen. They weren't fully matured, appeared the caps have yet opened.
So was looking for opinions. Should I go grab them tonite. Or wait a couple days for them to mature. Worried about the homeowner cutting grass tho.

I would probably wait if you want to see them there again... the majority of the people I have noticed to yard work on weekends, unless they have a lawn service. do they look like they cut it themselves? you might even wanna go knock on the door and tell them you are in to mycology and was driving by and noticed the edibles in the yard. tell them you didn't want to trespass so you came to ask them first...you might be surprised at how appreciative they are for the courtesy... just happy hunting! and be safe sir.

let 'em mature. always. Good karma is always on the side of giving 'em a chance to reproduce.
the gyms were growing out of a lawn or out of wood on a lawn?
Regardless, get a couple photos or a really detailed description of a mature specimen and get 'em ID'd as active (if that's why you'd harvest 'em) before you go taking down a colony, especially if they're not dropping spores yet. No need to destroy a non-active immature colony that's just minding its own business, IMO.

they were growing out of lawn next to stump. they were definetly gyms. I choose to wait and paid the price someone else must of snatched em last night. I feel like I lost a pet or something. It was disappointing to drive by the yard and they were gone. I was like NOOO!

From a car it's hard to make a positive ID on which type of Gym they were and not all gyms are active.
