so that other thread about the word cunt had a few people mentioning they say it when they're driving, which got me wondering how many of u shroomery people get road ragers 8======?
I personally like never really get mad behind the wheel, sometimes i'll mutter some shit to myself if i'm a little irritated but it's always pretty light-hearted. I can only think of one occasion in my life where some lady was trying to go without the right of way and then decided to call me an asshole because I went instead, and I was like "yeah fuck you" semi-loud
come to think of it I hardly really get mad or angry in general though so
so do u guys pop street boners where ur veins explode in ur head and stuff

When I drive I require complete concentration, I require that my eyes must seek to locate themselves to the road I'm driving on. I must allow my eyes to place all their focus into the material object presenting itself to me,I must acknowledge that by allowing this focus to implement itself I am sacrificing all my energy. I am freely giving up all control of my urge to resist to this force replacing me, I am one with the force that allows the car to drive for me. I can drive without actually being the driver, I can drive without so much as putting my foot on the petal. I know this is hard to believe but my brother also adopted this gift from me and it allowed him to drive much ebtter than other people, because he had such precision he was able to drive to place much faster than others. He was so much faster than the majority of other people that I would nearly cry, I would in some way be jealous of his driving skills, constantly trying to discover how he used my method but is now better than me. Now I am not one to allow my emotions to get in the way of how I drive, I cannot accept that my emotions will overtake me and make me do somethign I regret, I cannot allow this to happen, I will not allow it to happen. I will ask someone to please try adn help me frm this thing not happening, and sometimes they will request taht I forget that it happened and then after I will forget it all that happened.

I'm from Maine, but now live in the Southeast.
Up north we have a code of the left lane being the "passing lane".
People don't obey that rule down here. Every time I'm on the highway and some stupid fucking cunt is driving slow as fuck in the left lane it feels like my head is going to fucking explode.

Sometimes I think if I had a gun, id be in jail for shooting someone in a road rage scenario.

I get angry at the really stupid people, but over all I'm pretty patient/calm. If you make me literally have to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting you, I'm going to get pissed. If you sit at a green light for 20+ seconds because you're on your cell phone, I'm going to get pissed. Actually if you do pretty much anything wrong and I see you're busy looking at your phone, you get called a "fucking dumbass". People messing with their phones while driving is one of my pet peeves.
Other than that, no.
Although I can be an asshole.. The other day there were these two people on their bikes riding on one of the busiest streets in this city, during one of the busiest times and holding up traffic for a long ways (instead of just crossing the street and riding on the sidewalk like everyone else) I honked as I passed them up and scared the shit out of one of them.. I laughed for quite a while about it.

Yeah I'll comment on dumb things people do to other people in the car, but I don't get worked up about it. I'm just happy to get where I'm going without incident.
The other day this cab driver blew a stop sign at a T intersection and tried to make a right turn right in front of me, then when I honked at him and kept going he flipped out and gave me the finger. Why the fuck are you getting mad at me, you're the one who fucked up. I thought for a moment about getting out and explaining the function of a stop sign but then I thought better of it.

Ive had people roll their windows down and yell at me for riding my bike in the bike lane. Ive almost been side swiped while I was in the bike lane, and have had people cut me off and then slam on their brakes while I'm bike riding.
I now have a helmet camera and I video tape every time I go for a bike ride. If anyone is swerving (see that a lot, ppl too busy on their phones) or if anyone is rude to me I just make sure I catch their license plate and I put the video on youtube and report their license plate to a website that insurance companies check.
Don't underestimate a bicyclist. I'm so sick of peoples shit.

We don't have bike lanes. They were riding in the cars lane, and taking their sweet time I might add.. Was creating a dangerous situation because of all the people having to jump into the next lane (in very heavy traffic) to get around them..
I'd do it again if I saw them.

I think everyone has at least one experience with road rage, for some reason or another. Personally I've only had a couple, and I wouldn't call it "rage."
One thing that irritates me though is when decrepit old people are still driving, even though they can barely see the road or drive close to the speed limit.

If my town had no designated bike lanes, id ride on the sidewalk.
Down here we have bike lanes on some streets the size of a regular lane and although its labled a bazillion times, there's still about 3-4 people a week who drive down it thinking its their lane despite all the parked cars and shit.
I just want to attatch a sign on top of my head that says "GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE BIKE LANE "

Great idea. Attach a sign to your head so that drivers have to get much closer to you to be able to read it.
I'm sure that will work out well for you.

I just wish when drivers took their driving tests that it had more info on bicyclists and ttheir right of way. Ive had people take right hand turns literally right infront of me, causing me to slam on my breaks.
Another thing that drives me nuts is when lets say there's a stop light, everyone stops and in the right turn lane there will be a dude in a car like 3-4-5 cars back who plans to turn right, most of them will try to sneak past the cars in front of them by using the bike lane. And most of the time their vehicle cant make it so they're stuck half in a lane and half in the bike lane. I get SO pissed when I see this, especially because they should have seen me if they were watching their surroundings.
I have rolled up on these assholes and I will tap on their passenger window and say "why are you in the bike lane? Huh? Don't know how to drive? HAVE SOME RESPECT" usually they apologize and try to straighten their vehicle out, or they feel stupid and then tell me to fuck off haha

I fucking laid on the horn for a long time and gave him the finger. Fucking douchebag. Hopefully the only person he kills doing that is himself.

Yeah, driving in NJ is very stressful. Lots of traffic, lots of inconsiderate assholes, lots of fucking idiots, lots of red lights, lots of bullshit. It actually pisses me off thinking about driving in NJ.
I've gotten out of my car and started to yell at people, almost gotten into fights, thrown bottles full of water at people and its pretty common to see other people do it too. I think NYC is more fucked up, but no one in NYC seems to own a car so its just cabs being assholes to people that drive into the city (mostly people from NJ.)

I was told by a cop one time that you should only use the horn when its an emergency.
Seriously.
So when he took me to jail that night, he hobked the horn at the cop gate for them to open it and I said "you know you should only use your horn in case of an emergency " in the most annoying, high pitched voice ever. He wasn't impressed but I felt like I won...except I went to jail so I pretty much lost.

I don't get angry; I try to get revenge, but it ultimately just escalates the situation. If somebody is pissed about me driving 5 under the speed limit and laid on their horn or tailgated me, I do the opposite of what they want and drive even slower. I'd like to provoke road rage idiot into a situation where I can legally give them a hefty dose of pepper spray or taser, but it's just too risky. Road rage is a situation where it's just the two of us; my word Vs theirs. I'll say they started it, and they'll say I did. We'd probably both end up in jail.

nah not at all, I try to be pretty courteous to other drivers and try to not tailgate too horribly because I can't stand it myself. A few times people have been real dbags and I've flipped someone off maybe once or twice when I was 17 and all sassy.
I also use the left lane strictly as a passing lane than get back over, so it's a pretty smooth flow most of the time. However, when I'm in a rush I've been known to be quite a faster and more aggressive and have no issue riding on someone's ass to make them get out of my way and move into the slow lane. I also am pretty used to wriggling into traffic in crowded cities and definitely tend to drive a little bit more rudely in heavy city traffic(just because it's almost necessary at times).
Also I can part crowds of pedestrians in intersections like the red sea with my car when making a turn at a light without being too much of a jackass...idk, sometimes I find myself doing that outside of big cities and people reeeeallly don't dig that lol.

Yah, but going from the NYC/Boston/Philly(and dc but i'm never down there driving) to suburban and rural pennsylvania is a huuuuge difference in terms of drivers. Coming out of Philly I usually have a sudden revelation that I'm just being an asshole here and unnecessarily aggressive whereas in Philly if you're timid you usually end up pissing other drivers off more.

Do you ever drive on 422? Fuck everyone and their family on 422. My roommate is a long time friend of mine and he used to live outside Philly and I had to take 422 to go visit him every time. Everyone on that road HAS to be retarded.

Traffic here sucks bad. I had to wait for 6 or 7 cars to go by before I could pull out of my driveway just the other day.
Outrageous!

I'm beyond angry when I drive. I really enjoy driving but when there's lots of traffic or the guy in front of me doesn't drive the way I would, I shout obscenities, flip people off, tailgate people, I even threaten to get out and fight people in extreme cases. The way it usually goes is:
> I'm fine, enjoying the drive.
> Guy in front of me nearly comes to a complete stop while turning into a parking lot. Irritation level has skipped yellow and moved straight to orange. "Fucking douche."
> Put some music on and chill out.
> Guy now in front of me decides to wait for 20 cars to pass so he can make an illegal left, holding up traffic behind him. Irritation level red. "You've got to be fucking kidding me!" Hit the horn.
> Guy finally turns, roll my window down, stick out finger. Let the people behind me know I'm not fucking around as I nearly clip his bumper accelerating past him.
> Get on highway, always packed because city is overcrowded. 47 minutes to go two exits (true story). Shouting commences, beating of the steering wheel too. "Come on you motherfuckers! Goddamnit I hate these fucking people, move back to CA/NY/FL!" based on nearest license plate.
> Switch from The Beatles to Slayer.
> Guy in front of me is not paying attention, huge gap between him and next car, other cars taking advantage and filling the empty lane. Lay on the horn, "WTF ASSHOLE!?!" Wild gestures.
> Guy in front sees my obvious melt happening, decides he should throw arms up in the air and mouth "fuck you bro" in the mirror. Pull into the next lane and get next to him, give him the finger and look him the eye as I pretend to veer towards him for a sideswipe. Get in front of guy and pull into his lane, brake check him repeatedly. Continue giving him the finger. Guy stays back and someone else pulls in front of him, because he's a shitty driver who leaves huge gaps in creeping slow lanes.
> Get off the highway to save time, driving down street, calming down, old person in Buick pulls in front of me. Rides his brakes the entire time, lights flickering on and off. Pull into other lane to pass, but so does he and without using a signal. Eye twitch begins. Pull into other lane but someone is turning left and blocking the lane. "GRRRRRR!" Gripping the wheel too tightly. Admit defeat and get back into the lane with the old guy in Buick, but now he's turning, and slows to 5 mph while doing so. Everything is red now.
> Continue up the street, run into a funeral procession of asian people. Complete melt. Screaming, cussing, beating of wheel, insults to nonexistent god, baseless and vague threats to society in general, etc. Begin to worry about blood pressure and increased chance of stroke or heart attack. Accuse the entire world except for me of being homosexual racial slurs. Get tired of being angry and start thinking about having rough sex. Arrive at destination angry, frustrated, and horny.

Wut? They arrest you for that? In my state they just suspend your license and send you a letter. Then a whole bunch of stupid horseshit and money at the DMV.
Not always, I've seen people in jail for seat belt tickets before. A parking ticket is usually that way, but like a ticket a cop gives you for a traffic violation if you don't pay it a lot of times they will issue a warrant.

this, this, and... this. I can be a huge dick on the road. But, as Gumby said, it's kind of hard not to be in NJ. People are either trying to kill you (when already doing 80+ on interstates) by going 95, no blinkers, swerving in and out of lanes, or we got PA drivers doin' a steady 45 on interstates, in the left, middle and right lanes, essentially completely and utterly RUINING YOUR FUCKING DAY I just got stopped in DE for 62 in a 45. Woops No ticket though!
edit- it's always funny to me when you can tell where a person spends most of their time behind the wheel by watching them react to my driving. Anyone who drives in the city regularly never thinks twice about how I drive and often encourage me to make moves that even I consider too dangerous, others absolutely freak out the second you do a rolling stop

omg, I know that feel. Same thing on 278 on Staten Island. Once waited 45 minutes from the toll getting over the Goethals to the first fucking exit, which is like, what, a 20 second drive normally? feels super GOOD, man

I'm pretty positive I have, but it's definitely not a regular thing. I use 95, 76(ahhhh), 611, and occasionally rt 1 depending on where I'm headed. All of those during rush hour suck, but 76 is just a clusterfuck every single day during rush hour. You can tell which people are used to the traffic flow and going from 60 to a dead stop in a few seconds because they learn that tailgating=rear ending the car infront of you.
I've seen firetrucks use it shoving their way through already bumper to bumper traffic, and then fucking break down on the highway( ). Sometimes there's big fires raging off of the side of the road in some random outerlying philly 'hood and most of the time it just clogs up even without accidents because of how narrow the road is and because pennsylvania roads are just a clusterfuck of constant construction anyway.
route 76 is probably the reason I started smoking when I first moved down there and was commuting on it a lot and always sitting there parked and bored. Fuck that road, that is one of the few things in this world that I truly hate.
Also I distinctly remember a guy actually got shot and killed by a car in the other lane on 76, it was definitely on a part of it that runs through philly tho. And it has the word kill in it's formal name.
Fuck you schuykill expressway you outdated poorly designed fucker.

I totally don't road rage at people. just at...roads.
But if someone is sitting in the left lane with a parade of cars behind them I think it is totally reasonable to tailgate them relentlessly, that's about as bad as I get. Getting cut off is really not that big a deal 90% of the time, everyone does it sometimes and I can't believe that some people actually get pissed off enough to road rage. Actually once someone followed me(drove to the police station and that solved the problem pretty fast and made me chuckle) because I accidentally cut them off. Wtf, really? Don't you have shit to do and places to be?

Yeah it is way too easy to get your license here.
I'm most comfortable in the NE out of the places I've driven, aside from south florida like..well outside of Miami(which isn't all that bad), though it's a bit slower, not nearly as bad as I expected.
The south(atlanta area and any area around the big sunbelt cities, particularly ahem) are just scary. At least people in the NE tend to let every other car merge into heavy traffic as an unspoken rule and they usually try to switch lanes if they see someone trying to merge...at least around PA they do.
Jersey is a little nervewracking, I always just like how smooth their roads are compared to ours lol, but yeah, I usually aim for 5-10 over on most days if I'm not in a rush and I go the speed limit if I'm not sure about the cops in a particular area, and I always stay in the slow lane, but in jersey it's still always kind of white knuckled and I'm always usually the slower car on the road(while in PA I'm usually among the faster ones doing 10 over lol).
...but goddammit, they don't sit in the left lane(looking at you NY.. ) , and for that, I give them credit.

I loved driving on 285 around Atlanta. People getting shit done, going places. Jersey was pretty good too, but way too fucking congested.
Basically as long as people aren't congesting the fucking shit out of the left lane by going 35 under the speed limit, i can deal with their other shortcomings.

I think it should be a ticketable offense. I think the police need to stop going after people for petty shit like speeding that doesn't really cause many problems and instead go after people for shit like this that actually causes problems. I guess they're just after the low hanging fruit though.

Right? Isn't this like..common sense?! Why don't more people get this??? grr, definitely my number one pet peeve.
I've actually met people who have told me that they don't move over because they're doing the speed limit, and the car behind them is wrong and "that's too bad for them".
Makes me want to tear my hair out. No, it's not your job to fucking enforce speed, you are being unsafe and you are causing heavier traffic congestion you dimwit. Quote:

Yeah that's true, driving in America is a cakewalk compared to uh...most places. A lot of countries in Europe are bonkers, but less developed countries(particularly India) are literally terrifying to even be a passenger in.

Its really noticeable how people drive differently in different countries here. Here in Holland its okay, but I live here so I am used to it.
Germans are pretty good drivers too, and most of them have very nice cars. Some highways in Germany have no speed limit. You better not keep cruising in the left lane cause you get rear-ended by a Mercedes doing 220 km/h.
In France the people drive like jackasses. They will go out of their way to annoy foreigners. Regardless of traffic regulations its Frenchies first everybody else later.
As soon as you hit the Spanish border all is cool again. The Spanish are decent drivers and take everything a bit more easy.
Portugal is straight up mayhem but the people are really nice. They just drive really fast and have zero regard for common traffic rules

Today I realized a pet peeve I have while driving. When people in front of you (whether one or several cars up) slow WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY the fuck down (or to a bewildering stop as in today's case) before turning. I guess it's somewhat understandable if you're turning into a narrow driveway or something but there's no excuse for holding up 30 cars while turning into a goddamn gas station.
Though it's not something to rage over. Maybe a little.

SoJo is no exception the roads here are ass as well for the most part, but a SIGNIFICANT step up from North Jersey. North gets shittier weather and there's much more volume, constantly, so that contributes. I always laugh in the winter here in SJ because if there is a slim chance of snow (a max of half an inch), they'll have guys out icing all fucking night, plows ready to go, everything. Morris County, calls for 18 inches of snow, township decides "NAHHH we'll wait this one out", next morning, completely snowed in, whole neighborhood fucked, main roads are a disaster, accidents everywhere. I just find it funny that where the actual serious weather is, they don't do dick, and in South Jersey, where if you get half an inch people freak out, they handle it so seriously.

PA roads can be shitty though, I will say. But worse than here? Not a chance. 80 from the end near NYC clean through to like 287 is straight GARBAGE, in PA it's such a nice road, beautiful, never traffic, they've got those rad little circles on the road so you know to maintain a proper distance. Honestly, I love driving in PA.

I've basically lived in Pennsylvania my entire life and you both have me scratching my head hard. Maybe it's because I'm up in the Poconos and they don't give a shit, but Pennsylvania's roads are horrible. There are pot holes everywhere, and shitty patch jobs that are ruined in less than a year. PennDOT has one of the worst reputations out of any PA state agency.
I would never imagine in my wildest dreams hearing that PA has good roads.

hahaha consider yourself blessed

you wanna know what bad roads are, take 21 in NJ the entire way from Rt. 20 into Newark. It's honestly worth the trip just to experience it You wanna talk about botched patch jobs? At one point you hit a dip so high in the roadway that if you're not wearing a seat belt, your head will hit the roof. Numerous, numerous bikers have literally flown off the road (it's raised in many parts) into city streets below... it's fucked

You'd be surprised. 21 actually got a lot better. I think they repaved it or something. It's not that bad aside from the dips/slight jumps (I've almost gone airborne near Paterson) they have by bridges. It's a fairly smooth ride now. But 280 going though Newark? It's fucked. Good luck with your suspension on that one. It's the mecca for shitty patch jobs. It was almost better with the potholes.

i'm an angry driver, but i think my anger is justified. when i drive, i make sure i stay out of everyone's way. i go the speed limit or keep up with traffic, i pay attention and generally act how i'd like everyone else to act when i'm driving. people here in texas are some pokey fucking asswipes. i'm sorry but i don't have five minutes to traverse an intersection when i get an arrow.

I lived off of 81 and 380, they were all fucking under construction year round and they still sucked balls. NJ is so much better, though the really heavily traveled roads in NNJ are complete shit. 78, 22, 280 they are fucking blow donkey cock. Turnpike, rt 1, rt 9, rt 18, parkway, (parts of) 287, and a buncha random county roads in CNJ, SNJ are so so smooth year round. It doesn't make sense either cause a lot of those roads are interstates, its like they are the forgotten roads on NJ.

lolwut...? Maybe i'm particularly sensitive to the pothole situation because in philly and a lot of places the roads are super old, super narrow, and is fucking filled with craters lol. Boston is similarly bad.
i am always driving between Philly and the almost-poconos and it is literally impossible to escape construction traffic no matter where you are during every season except winter. A lot of the roads are super outdated....the schyukill express way was built in 1939 and is a disaster and a half.
And yup, I normally drive in central and southern nj when i go through there.

Yeah, I've only driven through Northern Jersey a couple times, most of my NJ adventures where down in the Cape May/Wildwood area. Roads were fucking perfect down there, I especially remember rt 9 as having literally no pot holes or patch jobs at all.
I'm pretty sure some senator in our state died a couple years ago because a chunk of roadway popped up and went through his windshield.

I get somewhat irate on my bicycle. I never drove a car but I assume bikers deal with the same sort of stuff at a different scale than drivers. I am also referring to europe, where biking is more normal way to travel, as opposed to America where I generally think drivers hate bikers more.

As a cyclist you never know how annoying and dangerous you are acting until you start driving a car yourself. Also please put some lights on the thing! In the dark or rain you really are near invisible.
Taking motorcycle lessons has given me new respect for those guys too, especially the ones driving through traffic jams.
If you want to see some real traffic madness you should drive through Paris during rush hour

Below exit 9 the TP certainly becomes better, that is, until you get stuck in the horrific road work, be it 1pm, 3pm, 6am, 2am, noon, 9pm, on a sunday, monday, christmas day, columbus day, or a thursday. There is no escaping the cluster fuck on that road. It is literally every single day, no matter what time of day. There is nothing in the entire world I hate more than that road. I've gotten to be a master of NOT being on that road when I need to come back down to school - get on by exit 10, hop off immediately at 9 and all back roads down to South Jersey from there. Takes the same amount of time.

most of the time i get pissed when i drive. people around here cant drive for shit. i especially hate when they drive 5-10 mph under the speed limit.
what really gets me are the ass hole bikers, the pedal type. i know they generally have the right away, but when they are driving in a 45 mph lane doing 15mph while holding up traffic... HOLY FUCK! if you cant do the suggested speed limit then get the fuck on the side walk. thats another thing! us the fucking sidewalk!
i also hate when ass holes ride my ass for 20 minutes then speed around me, get in front of me and then go the same speed. they arent doing it to be dicks, they are doing it cause they feel the need to be in front.
im pretty good at fucking with dick head drivers too.
i hate driving...

i did that once and im not proud of it...
we were at a red light and the car in front of me just sat there once it turned green. you could clearly see she was on the phone so we thought she was being a dumb bitch and wasnt paying attention. i told me friend to drive around her and when he did i threw a beer can at her windshield. she then screams that her car wont start...
i felt sooo shitty. we ended up driving back around and giving her a jump. she was pissed at first and then thanked us. i explained what we had thought and she just laughed afterwards.
my friend and i were both 18 and drunk and just didnt give a shit about anything at that time.
those were some dark shady times...

That's not true. Just because I haven't drove a car doesn't automatically make me a bad cyclist. I follow all the traffic rules to the letter. Any problem beyond that, is not mine. There are the same ratio of bad drivers to bad cyclists. I would say cyclists actually decrease road danger because we can utilize nooks and crannys where cars cannot fit such as side walks and in between buildings. And after all, it isn't cyclists who cause the majority of traffic fatalities.

I think I'd classify myself as a defensive driver. I drive pretty fast, but I never ride people's asses and always let people merge. Last time I was rear ended, I got out of the car and the guy expected me to be in ass kicking mode. I just said, "are you hurt?" He was so surprised.

Taking motorcycle lessons has given me new respect for those guys too, especially the ones driving through traffic jams.
If you want to see some real traffic madness you should drive through Paris during rush hour
I am not saying you are a bad cyclist. Well maybe you are, where I live cycling on the sidewalk gets you a fine. The point is that cyclists often think they can skip through traffic, making a quick turn here and there. They can off course, I do it too. I agree with you one the notion that cyclists dont kill that many people. They are genrally speaking the ones being killed in accidents.
You can follow the rules all you want if you are invisible in the dark or rain that is not really going to help you.
But you will not understand this unless you have driven a car.

I agree that you don't realize how invisible you are until you drive yourself, I didn't learn to drive until I was 30 and did a bunch of bike commuting before that. You are seen so much earlier if you're wearing a high vis vest.

I use my bike everyday. I also drive a car and a campervan.
I am not taking sides. I was just talking about something that I noticed when starting to drive a car. I do think people on bikes (me included) often forget that being in the right does not make you any less dead
